    Claudja Barry

The last HINRG recording I have by Claudja Barry is a 12" promo on RCA records called "Love is an Island" - has she recorded anything since this track way back in 1991 ?

What about "Down and Counting"? Was that out before or after "Love Is An Island"? (I think after)

DOWN & COUNTING is a great HINRG track that was released on EPIC records in either 87/88

'Down & Counting' was great but only in its original LP mix IMO. I initially bought the UK 12" & found the remixes ruined the record for me, but I'm generally not fond of remixes; this was no exception!

She released a 12" single in 1996 at Reputation Records (Bobby Orlando productions).
The title : Ain't gonna miss you.

Yeah, I agree - sometimes the original versions are far better than the extended club remixes.
I also have another 12" single by Claudja called "I DON`T KNOW IF YOUR DEAD OR ALIVE" from 1988 - It is not up to the usual standard of her material but it is passable. It was remixed by Ian Levine and released on his BLU MOON label.
I recently bought a Claudja Barry compilation CD but it is rather disappointing. It has most of her dance hits on it but they all fade out too soon and the mix is terrible. It was one of the many CDs issued on the now defunct HOT label in Miami.

Personally I find most hi-nrg after '87 was below-par & it doesn't surprise me that house music took over in many gay clubs by the end of the 80s as at the time it had a fresher sound. :( Shame 'cos hi-nrg was brilliant when it was good.

I know music tastes change all the time but I really wish the clubs would play some good 80s HINRG again - I never got into the house music scene - it does nothing for me at all...Dance music is in a slump at the moment - be interesting to see what emerges this time....

Well actually house has become a bit past its sell-by date (about time!- it was great 15 years ago but now - plllease!) & if you listen to some recent releases such as PSB's 'Try It (I'm In Love With A Married Man) & Dannii Minogue's 'I Begin To Wonder' you may detect that the hi-nrg sound is drifting back albeit with a different 21st century slant!

Claudja is one of my favourite Disco/Hi-NRG divas!
She did a record in 1992 credited to Claudja B. called "Summer Of Love" on her husband's Radikal label.. Believe it or not sometime in the mid-90s she did a Christmas album called "Disco 'round The Christmas Tree" :D She's also done some other things that have ended up on cheap compilations here and there, most of them are quite sub-par.. like a cover of ABBA's Dancing Queen and a "rave version" of "I'm Not In Love" that was probably on a compilation on Radikal..

That Christmas CD is pretty awful. I love Claudja but this release sounds as if it was recorded with Claudja at the mic and her husband on a cheap Casio keyboard. Just dreadful. Only recommended if you are a completist.

I wonder what happened to Claudja Barry ? I wonder if she is still recording/performing - she has a great voice !

I love a trance track she did with General Base in Germany called 'Poison'.Was huge at 'Heaven' in the early 90's.Claudja's vocal on it is sheer heaven. Lovely spacey production on it too

eh yeah.. I was afraid it would be awful.. I have another CD produced by her husband around the same time - It was an album for Gloria Gaynor called "I'll Be There".. So awful! I don't know what was the point, it sounded just as you said.. like it was done on a cheap casio.. So disappointing since Jurgen was a great producer back in the day.. I suppose he's more focused on the business side of things now.. He's on ebay selling old studio equipment now and then..

oh I had totally forgotten about the track Claudja did with General Base, that one was good too! She did another collaboration with Canadian group BKS on a song called "Can We Dance,".. I've never heard it, but BKS later became Love Inc. (they had some big hits with "Broken Bones" and "You're A Superstar" in the late 90s)

Claudja's Christmas album is one of those guilty pleasures...it would be superb without the vocals (!). Unfortunately, Claudja sounds off-key throughout the whole thing.

As far as Gloria Gaynor's "I'll Be There" CD produced by Jorgen, I thought it was actually pleasant. It's not very original in that it consists of dance versions of established pop and gospel tracks. Not her best effort, but it beats the "I Am What I Am" album by a mile!

wow too bad about Claudja's voice :( She had one of the best voices out of all the disco divas IMO..

I've never heard Gloria's "I Am What I Am," I still have the I'll Be There CD, so I'll probably give it a chance again one of these days.. I'll probably end up getting a copy of Claudja's Christmas album one of these days anyway, just to be complete.. :P

LOL - it's been ages since I listened to the Christmas CD, but you are right - her vocals are off-key.

This project really could have been great, but instead wound up being a really big disappointment.

I'd love to see a *NEW* Claudja CD; hell, I'd even settle for a new greatest hits collection!

So would I.. That one released on Hot Productions was so awfully mastered and cheaply packaged, not unlike most of the other "best of" CDs released by Hot Productions...
