Does anyone know how this works regarding airplay?
Do the songwriters get a royalty everytime their song is played on the radio?
Does the performer get a royalty also?
If songwriters do get a royalty payment everytime their song is on the radio, a prolific songwriter such as Paul MccCartney must do quite well.
The composer(s) certainly do get a royalty every time his/her/their tune is played on legitimate radio. The record company also gets a cut as do the music publishers.
If just a small section is used in a film, TV programme or advert they get a hefty payment, even if its only 5 seconds long. If it goes over 30 seconds the money is more or less doubled for every subsequent 30 second segment, or part thereof.
