on Patrick Adams. We CAN'T be talking about the producer of gorgeous tracks like "Summer Love", "Keep on Jumpin" and "Love Bug".
Or to put it another way, PATRICK ADAMS....Genius or one dimensional, egomaniac.
There's no denying that he had a distinctive sound, but I can't help thinking that he was really one dimensional and truly uninspiring. His obsession with synthy sounds just spoils (read RUINS!!!!) sooooo many tracks for me, especially as so much of his lines are just doodling and quite frankly played rather badly. Listen to all the split notes.
I wish someone had taught him how to be a little more spare both in his playing and his mixing.

Arguably, he did have a distinctive style, most notable with his Musique and Phreek projects - you know instantly that you are listening to Patrick Adams - you either like it or don't. The same could be said of Nile & Rodgers, all their tracks have a certain style, think Chic, Norma Jean, Sister Sledge - their music is/was all pretty much interchangeable.
I do like most of his stuff, and as with everything it's a question of taste & what does 'it' for you.
I quite like what I've heard from him, and yes, he definitely had his own style. But I haven't yet heard enough of his lesser-known works to have a meaningful opinion. I would assume he saved his best efforts for his major-label releases...
His volume of work was such that it wasn't all gonna be great. In the main, more misses than hits (he seemed to live in the studio) but as a long-time Adams aficionado, I'll give him the seal of approval any day.
Certainly so far as the Sine LP "Happy is the only way" is concerned, I completely agree with Quinny. I can't get my head around it, talk about taking one idea and stretching it across a whole LP!
Lemme see...obsession with synthy sounds......doodling.....split notes...seemingly one dimensional.....OOOPS, damn I thought you were talking about GIORGIO MORODER for a second.Originally Written by QUINNY
Let that sink in.
My point is everybody has had their bad record(s). Based on his ENTIRE CAREER? Looking over his musical life?
GENIUS.
Let that sink in.
GENIUS........DISCUSS!! (as if there were really a need?)
Don't get me wrong, he made some damned fine records, but the sound that made him sooo distinctive (and gave him a recogniseable voice, so to speak) was also his achille's heel IMO.

Where can one get an overview of Patrick Adam's discography ? What were his bests and his worsts??

As the above list is anything but complete, bear in mind that Adams has been involved in the business since (at least) the '60s; and there are many strings to his bow. He's also produced sweet soul, funk and rock orientated material, so he shouldn't be written off purely for that Greg Carmichael 'squelch'.
Looked over that list. I'm not all that impressed. A couple of keepers.
