Who will say that CERRONE is NOT CHEESY? Or CONSTANDINOS? COME ON! Throw the first stone who don't like ANY CHEESY song here!Come on, we're talking about popular music, not STRAVISNKY or LIGETI... Yeah, but "Ring My Bell" is even cheesy by disco's liberal standards. And annoyingly so. And it's sooo gay that it's straight.

BTW, I love the PING! PING! I heard that the PING! sound was made by the same PING! machine used in a MONTY PYTHON movie (LOL).
Well, I could've called it the "analog synth with the oscillators silenced, the filter resonance set to self-oscillation, and a slight decay on the filter envelope" sound, but somehow bwoooo just seems to sum it all up. "Ping" smacks of Kraftwerk IMO...

    Hey Graham,
you probably right about the PING! thing, but I don't mind, I prefer to write PING! than bwoooo. PING! is prettier and funnier than bwoooo

It's my PING! come on, dance and sing!

BTW, you say that RING MY BELL is cheesy even by DISCO standards. It's your opinion. As much as I know, there's tons of DISCO tunes cheesier than ANITA WARD's hit, but hey, who's counting?

    Say cheese,

zeca azevedo, just ringing his bell

I've heard enough disco/funk songs to call this song SUPERCHEESY. Is Anita's voice annoying..YES IT IS! I think Dinah's and Esther's voice is more enjoyable. As far as ALL popular music being cheesy I don't think so. Unfortunately disco has been labeled cheesy by the masses but we're talking about tackiness here. You hate Cerrone/Constandinos, I love them so we have a never-ending tug-of-war. C & C may be cheesy to you but their music is tasteful and GREAT to dance to!! I will take "Love In C-Minor" anyday over "Ring My Bell"! There are other songs that have been called cheesy but I LOVE them anyway such as:

1.Here Comes That Sound Again - Love De-Luxe
    2.Le Spank - Pamplemousse
    3.Come On & Do It - Poussez
4.Feels Like I'm In Love - Kelly Marie
    5.I Wanna Dance Wit Choo/Get Dancin' - Disco Tex & The Sex-O-Lettes
    6.Wasted - Donna Summer
    and others.....

If you like "Ring My Bell" its your opinion. Personally I can't stand it! When it first came out, it was ok I danced to it. By the following year, I had enough of it. Like Marky said

    ok
    let me just say something

ofcourse it is a cheesy song
but so are most disco songs

This is defentley not a personal favorite
but cheesy songs are funny in a ironic way

I remember when I was going on one of those all inclusive plane Trips to the Grand Canaria

and we ended up sitting next to to
    lesbian alcholics
    ex-drug addicts
that were going on the trip to celebrate 10years free from drugs

    but defenetley not from alchohol
1 hour into the flight both of the were sipping on their 3rd bloody MAry and 4th Beer

Yes They were drinking them at the same time....

on the Airplane 'radio' or 'parody of raido'. They had a old hits party station channel.

One of the songs on the Radio was the
    Superchessy Ring My Bell

Just as I was rocking in my seat looking looking forward to a great vacation. I caught the one of them looking at me...
like why the hell is he rocking like that

So I tuned her into the same channel and she tuned her friend in
and it was a hilarious site when the 110kg Lesbian Woman started

rolling her hands around rocking in the airplane chair
and lip singing 'You can Ring My Bell'
and ofcourse the Ping or Bwooo!

Together with the Stewardesses I was having a fit and I couldn't stop laughing for the rest of the airplane flight

it was a hilarious start to a great Vacation

And that is how I will forever remember you can ring my bell

Every song has its time and place folks!
    And Remeber
    Poooww!!! (aka Ping, bwoo)

    Hi HUSTLE,

well, I'm sure we disagree about some songs, but if we didn't have something in common when it comes to music we will not chating on this beautiful FORUM. If I'm posting on this FORUM, it's because I like DISCO music, of course. When I say I like DISCO, this doen't mean that I like all DISCO styles or songs (I think most of the posters on the FORUM already wrote about the DISCO songs they don't like). I prefer BLACK DISCO or soulful DISCO - whatever you want to call it. Anyway, I think I made my statement here. Let's keep pushing our tug of war gently (LOL).

About CHEESY songs: what's wrong about liking CHEESY songs? WHAT IS WRONG WITH THAT? I LIKE TO KNOW 'CAUSE HERE I GO AGAIN!When you say that a song is cheesy, it means that this song is awful or what? As I posted before, I like lots of cheesy songs and YES, ALL POPULAR MUSIC IS CHEESY IN A WAY OR ANOTHER - to UNDERSTAND popular music you MUST accept this fact. There's nothing wrong about liking cheesy songs or movies - I'm brazilian, latin american, and people here don't mind THAT much about being cheesy or not - except maybe for BLAXMAN, but he's an obsessive guy, very concerned about his public persona (LOL), as much as some people here in this FORUM.

Let me tell you this in CAPITAL LETTERS: I LIKE CHEESY SONGS, THERE'S NOTHING WRONG ABOUT CHEESY SONGS. DISCO IS CHEESY - so what? Is it bad just because it's cheesy? NO!
ROCK'N'ROLL IS CHEESY TOO AND I LIKE IT!

I have a statement to make about RING MY BELL: at least the song DOES NOT HAVE THAT ANNOYING, BORING, HORRIBLE STRINGS USED IN OTHER DISCO RECORDS (LOL)!

You talked about ANITA WARD's voice. I will say it again: her voice is an R&B voice, period. I recommend to you to listen to some 40's, 50' and 60' R&B. You can say you don't like her voice, but you can NEVER say her voice is horrible - is a voice with a deep early R&B style. If you don't dig this style of singing, well, different folks...

I don't remember who made a post talking about ANITA WARD's southern soul ballads, but I have to agree - I have her album (BLAXMAN gave it to me - thanx man) and the ballads are my favorite tracks on it - especially the beautiful IF I COULD FEEL THAT OLD FEELING AGAIN.

    That's it for NOW!
    Peace and war,

zeca azevedo, still ringing his bell!

P.S.: you wrote "I've heard enough disco/funk songs to call this song SUPERCHEESY". How old are you? I'm beting you're not older than me, and if you're not, well, I can say that I've heard much more disco and funk songs than you did in your life. If you're older than me, you can say that you've heard more disco/funk songs than me, OK? I just want you to know that I'm listening to SOUL and DISCO since 1973!!! Enough for you?

Its just that particular song that I can't stand. I'm not saying that she has the worst voice in music history but "Ring My Bell" don't do her any justice. Anita's voice is kinda similar to Denise Lepage's voice (LIME)
but not as ear shattering. Now most people classify LIME as a supercheesy group but I LOVE their songs. Its "Ring My Bell" that I just don't like. I love all types of disco from the supercheesy/funk/european so its not because its cheesy - I just think its an awful song that is played toooooo much.

    Hi HUSTLE,

I understand your feelings about the song. You have the right to dislike it, as much as I have the right to dislike... CERRONE (sorry again, guys).

I used my post just to make some statements about music, to make the guys here on the FORUM know what I'm thinking about this music that we love so much (and hate sometimes too - LOL).

Anyway, thanks for your kind and elegant reply.

    Peace and peace,

When I heard this song for the first time in ages (around '92), I liked it. I can't say I hate it (only because I haven't heard it in quite some time), but compared to other songs, it does have a Top 40 sound to it.

I remember seeing Anita performing it on American Bandstand when VH-1 reran selected eps of the show. I remember when the synthesized drums came into the instrumental break before "You can ring my bell...", the entire audience mimicked the sounds.
