I saw in the newspaper that 'Shalamar' were on this show tonight and I could hardly believe it. I didn't see the show, but please don't tell me Messrs Daniel and Hewitt have had to sink to this level (I assume Jody's not part of it).

Shalamar were Howard Hewitt, Jefferey Daniel And another girl.
Jody wasn't part of it. They did a stormin cover of the outkast's 'Hey Ya'. Sabrina was er...........OK. Juniour Giscombe was infact excellent and an excellent cover of Daniel Beddingfields 'Gotta get through this'.

    You didn't miss much Davicillo.
Junior should've won it really. He was the best by far. Jordan Knight's voice was weak and husky, as he could barely reach certain notes.

It was quite sad to see the flabby state that Howard Hewitt and Jeffrey Daniel were in. Surpislingly no one mentioned that it wasn't the original line up, even though they showed old clips with Jody Watley and the other original guy who's name escapes me right now. See below...you'll know who I mean.

Anyway, they won. That's what counts I suppose.

At least it's a tad better than dreary American Idol

There were numerous lineups of shalamar; Howard didn't join until 1979 & then by '84 he was the only one left! this is no surprise as they were a typical 'manufactured' disco group. I'm so pleased they won as they made some brilliant records in their time; I was always pleased that the 'Friends' LP from '82 was so big in the UK as it was a classic LP & the US had really written them off for being 'disco'; unusual for the British to have such taste!

So give us Americans the scoop...what's this show about? Inviting over-the-hill pop stars to compete for a chance at a new hit? :-? :P

Don't they know its all about the RAP & the Hip-hop crap these days???? :x  :x  :x

Well, I guess they could sing the chorus on a FIDDY-CENT masterwork, eh?

You've got it in one Blanche. Give me over-the-hill any day rather than 50 cent or Dido.

Each week there are 5 acts who first perform their best-known track & then come back to perform a 'contemporary' cover which have proved to be quite interesting to say the least! Winners such as Carol Decker & Shalamar have won I feel because they seem to have a genuine love of performing & come over as 'caring' for what they're doing; it's a bit embarassing when someone like Sabrina comes over as doing it as she needs money to help her property business or whatever! Every act sings totally live ( :o ) so it's like watching a car crash at times (The Pasadenas & Baccara were particularly scary) but I'm finding it compulsive viewing seeing how some acts have aged (e.g.Nick Heywood :( ) while others still look & sound the same 20 years later.

Geez, I wish Carol Douglas could get a shot on that show...instead of humiliating herself be "actin' homeless" and sayin' she stole **** form Sharon Brown on the "People's Court"!!!!!!!!!

(sidenote: we rep a singer/actress named Sharon Brown (not the "I Specialize in Love" diva...but we have recently received some royalty checks for the ISinL diva from some French company....knowing that Sharon needs $...I'm wondering what to do with the checks??? (of course, I'm gonna return them.)

It's a shame that a lot of 70's performers have let themselves go physically.

Last year, Donna Summer was on Idol and she looked awful.

Haven't any of them heard of the Atkins diet??????

Matrix style jackets, can't hide a big rump.

Miquel Brown's daughter Sinitta, was a 'singer' in the UK during the '80s, and was on the show a few weeks back. She had a six pack...And I don't mean beer. And a massive ring on her finger from 'friend' Simon Cowell. The gyrl has obviously been looking after herself very well.

Did you know that Sinitta's mum is Miquel Brown of 'So Many Men' & 'Symphony Of Love' fame? This proves that disco gets worse over the generations!

On the front page of today's Daily Variety....

    "NBC TUNING UP BRIT 'HIT'

In plain ole English, NBC is doing an American remake of the "Hit Me Baby One More Time" show to debut here June 2 in "The Apprentice" timeslot on Thursday @ 9:00 pm. The Brti host Vernon Kay will also host the US version.

And they pay the network programmers millions to think of new shows...and what do they do?...recycle and import other's ideas.  :-? :P

It'll be interesting to see how the US audience cope with Vernon's heavy Lancashire accent! :o

DD, I saw Tony Warren who created Corry the other day in Princess Street; I was dying to ask him what he thought of the program these days but was too shy. (I'm such a shrinking violet when I'm not doing the modelling! :o ). He must be really old now!
