Thanx,JP.I like them all,but in no particular order:
    Tracks 1,2,3,5,6,7,8,12,13,14 and 15.
I'd not heard 'Oogum Boogum' until I saw the movie and although it's probably not strictly Disco,I still like it.
    What say you?

I liked all of the tracks from that CD except "He's The Greatest Dancer". The new cover (in 1998 LOL) of "I Love The Nightlife" was very well done in my opinion. Haven't listened to that CD like in 3 years!

"The Oogum Boogum Song" and "Gimme Little Sign" were hits by soul singer Brenton Wood from 1967!!! Don't know why "Oogum Boogum" made it into the "Last Days Of Disco" soundtrack. The director must have had a thing for it, or Miramax got it real cheap.

We previously discussed that, although lotsa good songs were used in the soundtrack, since the movie is set in 1982--NONE of those songs would have been played at a disco at that time. Only "Dolce Vita" by Ryan Paris which is heard in the film, was representative of the club music of the time the film was set.

Come on, it wasn't as bad as "54".

Whit Stillman loves the talky, chatty, yak-yak-yak banter. So, he made the disco appear to ba a fern bar with folks sipping white wine and talking as though there was light cocktail music in the background.

I wonder why Dolce Vita wasn't included in the soundtrack.

Also the 54 soundtracks were awesome in my opinion. Well the movie wasn't great at all except probably for the music and 54.

I thought both films weren't the best, but they did have redeeming features.I thought that Kate Beckinsale and Selma Heyak (?) turned in half decent performances.

Voyage,I've just ordered the double '54' soundtrack,so I'll let you and everone else know what I think when I've heard it.

I've not seen the film but the soundtrack is fantastic IMHO. It features true classics that were not necessarily pop hits so the soundtrack gives them much wider exposure. The number of years they selected the songs from is quite wide, which surprised me as I assumed that it would be from one distinct period (haveing not seen the way the film moves). Is there more songs in the film itself? I rememeber when Thank God It's Friday came out it was full of additioal songs that did not make it to the marathon sondtrack.

I have the "54" soundtrack and I think that it is a pretty good compilation. I like the soundtrack better than the movie because I think that it was terribly sugar coated and the performances wasn't that strong. In my opinion, the best actor in that movie was Mike Myers's portrayal of Steve Rubell. Anyway here are my faves from "54" soundtrack:

#2 Keep On Dancin'- Gary's Gang
#3 The Boss - Diana Ross
#4 Dance Dance Dance - Chic
    #5 Vertigo/Relight My Fire - Dan Hartman
#6 You Make Me Feel(Mighty Real) - Sylvester
#7 Move On Up - Destination
    #9 Contact - Edwin Starr
#14 Native New Yorker - Odyssey
#15 Que Sera Mi Vida - The Gibson Brothers

Personally, "Mahogany" gets my vote for that award.

Also, Jussi tells me that despite the wonderful soundtrack, "Nocturna" is abysmal. But I haven't seen that for myself (yet).

I own both "54" and "The Last Days of Disco" soundtracks. All 3 have great tracks on them, BUT, most are shortened versions and most readily available elsewhere in their extended versions.

The exception is Don Ray's "Got To Have Loving" which is included in it's full 8+ minute version on "Last Days Of Disco". This is Euro-Disco at it's best, IMHO.
