There was also a version by Rozalin Woods, which was faster than the Dr. Hook version, which is very good. I'm not actually sure whose version came first, Rozalin's was recorded in 1979.

I'm actually wondering if it got a lot of club play. As the song sounds like it would have been a bigger dance hit released in '79.
