I spent about an hour and a half the other night trying to trace it. No success so far. Not sure if it was Herbie Hancock, as you thought. It could possibly be a Crusaders track, but did they ever use a vocoder? And the sax didn't sound like Wilton Felder ...Was the time of 5:06 the full length version?

BTW It's a great track, and it's driving me nuts as well!!!

Thanks, i realize this song is very difficult to identify as much as it is great!!! But I do not loose any guess...
The total time 5:06 is just the length of the recorded part I have, for sure it clocks in at a longer time.

Hi Masdefi, it sounds like Azimut, try to listen something on the web, the use the same kind of vocoder in one album of 1979.
    Good luck.

Thanks, but now it's difficult to check tracks on the web. I have not found a good substitute to AG yet. Nevertheless I will try to check Azimuth out: have you got any records from that?

Hi Masdefi, I have one cd of Azymuth called Outubro, your tune is not in it, but the instrument of vocoder is just the same that the group who plays your track. Azymuth has a lot of proyects and they are very popular for remixers who like brazilian jazz, they play also some funk fusion.
    Good luck.

My friend checked out the three albums, no chance.

the second link is their latest album, but they have been going since 78 with stuff that was even licensed on Salsoul(on the road/space rock)vocoder is present on nearly every track on the first two albums.
try the first link(the 2nd has a link to the first one too)botom line i don't know your track so i'm like thinkin "who could have made it? what does it sound like?"
the only key is the vocoder so: it could be an Italo thing on Fulltime(re kano/vinzee)
it could be Zapp, It could be the Rockets,
maybe a pre Telex thing(Transvolta) check the Telex fan page),It could be on Phily label(Q - voice of Q),basicly i'm guesing,,,;)
starnge you don't know about the Rockets and you are from Italy,,

There's a new site called Kazaa which might help. You need a bit of computer power to use it though

Hi folks! Thanks Massimo for your words.

Let me explain what happened with my not-so-succesful-help. I have a friend in Venezuela who is very knowledgeable about music and I thought he might be able to help Massismo with this song. I sent Diego, my friend, the sample of the file and he suggested two alternatives. Unfortunately, neither one proved to be the right one.

Right now, I am trying to help Massimo by sending the sample to different radio stations. By the way Massimo, I haven't had any responses yet.

I think we have been looking within the wrong music style. Maybe we should look into jazz/funk/fusion artists like Weather Report, Rippingtons, Crusaders, or something like that.
