Depends. Some mixers like the Rane allow users to swap out a bad pot/slider. You may also try cleaning the slider with a swap soaked in either alcohol or a contact cleaner available at Radio Shack.
When I fade my crossfader to one side of my mixer it makes a scratchie noise. :x Also, audio is still heard on the faded side.
Do I need to replace my crossfader or should I get a new mixer?
thanx

Bernie's right; your "pot" (potentiometer) sounds like it's gone. However, the fact that you're still hearing signal from the other causes me to believe that perhaps there's also movement of the potentiometer happening within the case. If you can remove the cover, it might be as easy as tightening the screws to keep contacts from touching one another when the pot moves.
If all else fails, there's a great company called "Cables and Connectors" in Wethersfield, CT which occasionally will rise to the task of repairing otherwise non-repairable stuff. They've done miracles for me. They have a website: http://www.cablesandconnectors.com/
Good luck!
