    DANCE FEVER or SOLID GOLD?????

I think there may be a newer version of DANCE FEVER on cable somewhere but this topic is in reference to the original television network versions which aired during the late 70's and early/mid 80's.

    Which show did you prefer?

Which show do you think had better dancers?

    Which show played better music?

    Which show was more DISCO?

Does anybody in here know of a channel on cable or on satellite where I can watch either one?

Oh please...DANCE FEVER. Without a doubt the best on all counts. I wish they'd release some of it on DVD.

The show with the best looking dancers
I just can't remember which one. I wanna say Solid Gold. The girls were like a early version of In Living Color's Fly Girls.

Hello Guys...I am like so out of it!!!!! I lived through the 1970s and I simply can't remember "Dance Fever."
When was it on, who was the host, and what was the format? Maybe someone will jog my memory back into place...Now "Solid Gold" I wholeheartedly remember...but "Dance Fever"??? P.S. Does anyone remember the L.A. dance based show: "The Real Don Steele Show?" Now, that I do remember!!!!!! Especially the part when Don Steele would literally "push aside" the girls when he tired of watching them dance!!!!!

DANCE FEVER was a half-hour dance contest hosted by Denny Terio. Couples would compete in front of three then-famous celebrity judges who would award them points on looks, style, execution, etc. The winners would move on to the semi-finals later in the season in hopes of winning a grand prize that seems absolutely paltry by today's standards...I want to say $10,000 but I'm not sure. The music was hot, some of the contestants' costumes were hilarious, but everybody seemed to genuinely have a great time. It was fun to watch. There were no artist performances but each song was fully introduced (title *and* artist) so you could rush to the record store the next day.

SOLID GOLD was the visual equivalent of listening to the radio. Every week, the show would countdown the current Top 20 hits. As each hit was played, the "Solid Gold Dancers" would perform some type of ridiculous avant-garde interpretive dance that was laughibly moronic. It wasn't sexy, it wasn't artsy, it was TEDIOUS! However, the women were *very* pretty, the men were handsome and the costumes were 100% Las Vegas! Never before had the general public seen such short skirts, skimpy tops and armpit-high skirt slits on TV dancers. There were no artist performances with the exception of hosts Dionne Warwick (original host) or Marilyn McCoo (later years) who sang one or two of that week's hits.

I think the only distinct memory I have of either show is the time on "Solid Gold" when Barry Manilow performed his version of "Let's Hang On". It turns out that song has strong disco flavor in parts so that must explain it.

solid gold was only good to see some sexy vegas style dancers, and the very sexy ms. mccoo. dance fever was in my opinion kinda hokey. the real disco shows were step by step, soap factory, and i believe there was a show called disco 77-which also had a 12 inch release of the theme song on T.K. records. it would be oh so nice to get a hold of decent copies of some of these shows-due to the high cost of vcrs at that time almost no one has any copies of these programs. hopefully somebody will put a dvd out from the masters of these great shows.

Soap Factory was a lot of fun too, really enjoyed the dancers a ton, especially when Jeff and Donna Shelly gave a quick lesson and then just burned up that floor to demonstrate.

Same could be said for an L.A. based show Hot City, outrageous dancing there too. There was also the short-lived Disco Magic that broadcast from Miami if I'm not mistaken.
