Did any UK residents (sorry to exclude non-UK people) see 'Hit Me Baby One More Time' on ITV? Were they the original ladies do you think? If they were they've changed alot since the late 70s! I don't think it was a good idea for them to sing live either. When the presenter said that 'Yes Sir i Can Boogie' sold 16 million copies I bet any current performers watching would kill to get those sort of sales!

Yep, watched the show - they were awful and a parody of themselves. It's a shame as the track was OK 'back in the days' and it's a shame as they've lost all their allure of the time. I think the show is disappointing - a lot of the artists just don't cut the mustard anymore and what was Mica Paris doing on it?? :o
I had forgotten all about Baccara until I saw the clip on that "Disco Inferno" DVD about a year ago, it was kind of sexy :P, and didn't know they were from Spain until today :o

They were truly awful and I never ever played that record, even though I was working in Spain.
16,000,000 sales?????? Were they all deaf?
Baccara took part in the Swedish qualification for the European Song Contest last year (the songrwriter was Swedish). They didn't make it all the way![]()
They were two rather old ladies now...
Take a look here for news of a Baccara 'split'.

One of the current ladies is an original. The other isn't.
My thoughts exactly. The people that have won so far (Shakin' Stevens, Carol Decker, etc.) are just '80s has beens living off their past. Mica Paris had a really great start in '88. With about half a dozen top 10 hits from her first LP, what does she go and do? Decide that she doesn't want to '...sell out...' by being commercial, and released a load of forgettable mediocre songs. Why she had to go and cover some song by U2 I'll never understand. Over weight and over-the-hill.Originally Written by Headlamp
It was good to see Jaki Graham again though, she's still in top form and hard at it. As loud as she ever was. 'Round and Around' always reminds me of the summer of 1985 whenever I hear it. And the old clips they showed of her with her big '80s hair, were hilarious
A really talented lady...She didn't win of course.
I had a change to sit down and lounge for a good hour with Mayte Mateos, THE original singer on all Baccara recordings, and the new girl Cristina, some 3 years ago. Mayte stated that it was always just her who sang in the studio, Maria was just a decoration. I thought Mayte looked just fine, the legs were in awesome shape and the twinkle was there in the pretty brown eyes. - afterwards, an amazing 3000 + people turned up for a smashing open air concert here in Finland. The evening was warm, the sun shone at midnight and we waved red roses while "Sorry I'm A Lady" was performed with a full orchestra. The crowd went wild. And the girls blew me a kiss.
"...Maria was just a decoration...".I think she was not only "decoration" with more than 10 solo singles(!)( Gets Your Body/Time Of Your Life/I Wanna See The World/Hit on The Radio etc.)
