    Where did Disco Radio go?

Remember the days you could tune in the radio and have a choice of Disco Radio.

Here in Detroit I remember, 102.7 (WLBS), Disco 93 (WDRQ) and of course the "Electrifying MOJO" 107.5 (WGPR) aaahhhhh yessss those were the days.

What stations and DJ's in your town do you remember?

I think Detroit had the best Disco radio back-in-the-day

    Take that Chicago! :x

    Based on my experience...

KUTE 102 in Los Angeles (played long versions throughout the day, some stations only played the radio versions)

KSFX in San Francisco, fave DJ: Rick Capella

Disco station in San Jose, CA (can't remember call letters, played long versions, they and KSFX had COMPLETELY different playlists which ensured a superb variety)

KSOL in San Mateo, fave DJ: Marco Gutierrez (mostly a soul station but they'd get funky to the disco beat quite often, played long versions)

We had absolutely no disco radio here in Toronto BITD.We had a couple of late night radio shows that started at 12 mid.and ran until 4:00AM that played a mix of R&B,Funk and Disco but that was about it.The best we could get was WBLK 93.7 out of Buffalo,NY.

is everyone aware of DMX Digital Music Express?

it's a music-oriental cable TV channel available to those who subscribe to a certain level of cable TV service. There's about 12 different categories of music, "Retro Disco" being my favorite, not surprisingly. They are commercial free and list the songs' title, composer, and the album it appeared on. I have mine plugged into my sound system, so I can record it as I'm listening. Sometimes I plug it in when I'm out doing errands, and when I get home I have 1 hour of CD quality music to listen to on my cassette player when I'm out riding my bicycle. Almost makes the ridiculous cost of cable service worthwhile.

Lived in Bklyn,NY Disco 92 WKTU the original station with those call letters with Joe Causi, Paco. It was like a real community I remember Joes Lincoln Town Car got stolen He mentioned it on the air I am sure everyone was keeping an eye out. Driving down 86th street every car would be bellowing out the same tune the station was pure. Others at the time were not as mainstream but 98 KISS & of course 107.5 WBLS.

Today in NYC, we still have WKTU, NYC's dance station playing all the great dance music from the 70's through today. Although the main format of today's KTU is trance and house, they have 'dance classics nights' where the original disco is played (all radio edits). My personal favorite is 98.7 KISS, which streams 'old school and today's R&B.' Perhaps the best for disco in NYC today, every Saturday night features classic disco mixed by KISS mix-master DJ Daryl James, playing all 12" extended club and mainstream classics; KISS also plays disco and other R&B throughout the day.
