Two friends decide to go on a road trip before one of them gets married a.k.a. Guys night out times 7. One is a neurotic author who is trying to get his newest work published, the other a free-spirit who takes chances and wants to have fun and is hell-bent on getting his friend to loosen up. I won't tell you which one is getting married so as not to spoil it.

It's very cleverly done and full of really good laughs with out being absurd. Anyway, the two hook up with a pair of women and... you just have to watch it bro. :)

I second Bernie's sentiments. It's the most intelligent adult comedy in many years.

I admit I couldn't stand it. I think I lasted 33 minutes before I returned the DVD to the store.

I saw it, thought about it and asked myself: why didn't you pick another one  Sorry, this is an over-hyped movie IMHO, just like Million Dollar Baby BTW. Oscar? That one?

Sideways is the best American film I've seen in years. Very sophisticated entertainment, a tad like the sort of bitter sweet comedies Woody Allen did at his peak. Not since 'Fawlty Towers' has a mid-life crisis been so funny! :P

------ Since it's closeby , we took a drive through that area this week to see the wildflowers .... this is a bumper year ..... and to do some wine tasting too. There's an entire "Sideways' guidemap now , to follow the route and the locations used in the movie . .. the restaraunts, motel, wineries. What becomes a funnier line in the movie is when Jack shows up at the motel after being "caught" by the jealous husband , and he says he had to shortcut it naked through the ostrich farm... funny because there really is a large ostrich farm next to that motel they used that has scores of ostriches roaming about free range on the rolling hills . Don't know why they didn't use it as a backdrop for some scene. It's right there , complete with a feeding area where you can touch them.

BTW... Someone mentioned that Miles steals money from his mother at the beginning of the movie.... ??? ... I missed that , but if so , it didn't seem to fit the character ..?....

I finally got around to watching this. Thought it was okay, but wasn't really cup of tea or should I say glass of merlot.

However, I liked it better than another Academy Award nominated movie called "Closer" which I thought was a piece of crap.

it's quite simply one of the most genuinely funny American films in years... done almost in a typically pessimistic English-type of humour(?)!

excellent, thouroughly entertaining. get a nice bottle of red vino in in when you watch it... just make sure it's not Merlot!
