Matt Bianco was huge in Europe in the early 80s with
performing / covering classic swing and Rockabilly songs
    in a more modern way.
I liked "Who´s side are you on" and his first Album.
His female Singer had after that a short solo - career,
i don´t remember her name but she was from Poland.

Basia (Pronounced 'Basha') Trzetrzelewska is her name.
Matt Bianco quite deservedly had many hits during the middle '80s in Europe. 'Matt's Mood' from 1984 was an excellent and funky instrumental, 'Get Out of your Lazy Bed' and 'Half a minute' were great songs too, and the band seem to have mastered their very commercialised form of latin music. I'm surprised to see that they have reformed and are touring right now. Didn't they also do a version of 'Yeah Yeah' by Georgie Fame?

    Great stuff.

There is a new Matt Bianco released a couple of weeks ago that I'm yet to pick up, reviewer says Basia is great in this set, by the way Basia had a long carrer, she released like 4 of 5 albums and many of her 80's music was released on 12" and got lots of play at Discos :P

    Matt bianco

They were more famed for their bossa nova-ish stuff like 'Half a minute' and thier last UK hit single was in 1989 (Nervous).
The track that the folks down 'ere liked was 'Wap bam boogie'
(b side to Don't blame it on that girl).
The US remix of Basia's 'Promises' was popular as well.
Since then the male lead, Mark Reily, has gone into production I think.

That singer would be Cory Daye--lead singer for "Dr. Buzzard" and a solo act with "Green Light" and "Pow Wow" in 1979.

Basia T. didn't fare well comercially as a solo artist but that doesn't mean she didn't release good music.

The 1995 live album "Basia On Broadway: Live At The Neil Simon Theatre" (Sony/Epic) is worth a listen. It's even a bit jazzy in places.

Basia had a dance hit here in the U.S. "Cruising For Bruising".

I love Danny White's piano solo in 'Third Time Lucky" on Basia's Sweetest Illusion cd.

And to this day I still play Basia's debut Album and the Live on Broadway Album. Both are excellent examples of her work.

Matt Bianco had some exxcellent songs and indeed Emilio Estefan produced "Don't Blame it on that Girl".

Matt's Mood was the flip to Sneakin Out The Back Door and covered briliantly by The Breekout Crew, later that year. (1984)

Get Out Of Your Lazy Bed was their first hit, with a few others worth mentioning.

Yeh Yeh (they did indeed cover Mr G Fame's classic)

    Half A Minute

and the house-tinged Wap Bam Boogie. Great track and played to death in my local gay club.

    Basia's first album is a masterpiece - Time & Tide :)

My favourite Matt Bianco track is 'Good Times' (not the Chic song!)

    Re: Matt Bianco Anyone?

wow, I forgot all about this 2004 Matt Bianco "Matt's Mood" CD release with Basia on vocals, and now I see two different pressings (and covers) by different companies.

anyone knows if there are any quality issues I should know ???

Sorry, I think I had never entered this "Funk" subforum :icon_redface:

I never listened to an entire Matt Bianco LP but sure enough "Yeh Yeh" was a huge radio hit in Argentina back in 1986. The extended version is awesome. Very much in the British soul then in vogue (Style Council, Blow Monkeys, Swing Out Sister et al)
It don't mean a thing (if ain't got that swing)

    Re: Matt Bianco Anyone?

    Hi All.
Thought I'd resurrect this thread for a number of reasons:
Firstly, I've always enjoyed Matt Bianco's first album 'Whose Side Are You On' and suspect it's become something of a neglected classic.

    Matt Bianco - Whose Side....

Secondly, what previous posts in this thread have failed to mention is the importance of Phil Harding to the Matt Bianco sound. I believe WSAYO was his last major mixing/engineering project prior to his PWL work.
You can certainly hear his 'touch' throughout the album.
Which bring me to my third point:
A few months ago a double C.D. "Phil Harding Club Mixes Of The 80s" came out. Has anyone heard it ? It would seem pretty essential to me (depending on your interest in early 80s U.K dance music !)
