L.A. has the Record Recycler on Pico, and the Pasadena City College flea market, as my favorites. But you need to be more precise as to where you'll be staying, as the question is too vague.

California is a big state so you have to narrow it down. I can think of a couple in San Diego, one over in the Hillcrest area.
Find them and destroy them!
