All you footie fans out there - Which is more important - music or football?
I would say that although the World Cup is totally addictive and I can't get enough of it, I think music just about beats the footie.
I mean - when the World Cup is over and it's back to watching Chelsea playing, I think I'll stick with the music - it ALWAYS cheers me up  whilst being a follower of Chelsea Football Club can be a frustating experience! We always beat the good teams and lose to the weak teams
So that's one vote for MUSIC
Any more?
If it moves - funk it!!
Really tough question to me! I cant live without music and football. You know, Brazil is a musical country. Here, in every stadium where a game is rolling.......have a brass band playing in the middle of the crowd!!
Me and my family are followers of INTERNACIONAL, we are shareholders of it, we watch every game in the stadium. But we are part of a great brotherhood (Senhores do Groove), and this is about music. We make parties just to listen to the music, we spend money just to listen to the music.
So, I declare a drawn game.
Peace.

Oooops, I forgot to say something that you can hear in Brazil about football:
-A man can change his wife, his car, his job. It's OK! But if this man change his team by another...........what kind of bastard is he???
Peace.

In England we would answer as follows:
what kind of bastard is he???
Probably a MANCHESTER UNITED fan !!!!

My opinion:
Music kicks footy mate!!!!!
I mean, playing the sport is exciting but watchin' it on TV is BORING!!!
Soccer is about as exciting as Australian footy. The only exciting thing about Australian footy is when the players get into a brawl and bash up the other team. I think I had heard of stories where some yobbo footy fans boo the other team and chuck meat pies and beer cans at them, I guess can get very exciting and great for a laugh. I remember when I use to live in Tasmania back in the 1980's when I was a little boy there were only two TV channels and a lot of the time there was nothing but football football football football football football!!! Put it this way Australia LOVES it's footy, lots of Aussies watch it on TV and a lot of fathers who are footy fans encourage their sons to watch the footy with them and they become addicted to footy. But there are a lot of people like me who find watchin' footy is boring.
As for soccer, watchin' it is even more boring than Australian Rules Footy. Gee it's been about four years since I last watched footy on TV. Cricket is even more boring to watch especially with the EXTREMELY BOOOOOOOOORING commutator Ritchie Benard.
And just for the record, I've only read the world cup thread maybe once or twice.
I said it before and I'll say it again, I ain't much of a sports fan (watchin' it on TV that is) but playing it can be really fun. The only sport I really watch is the WWE wrestling because it isn't just wrestling, there are lots of funny stuff happening on it especially when Vince McMahon did that "Vince McMahon Kiss My Ass Club", the bit where Stone Cold was wrestling Booker T at the supermarket smashing food into Book's face, the Kurt Angle "You Suck" thing, and the bit where Trpile H dacks Kurt Angle and Hulk Hogan rips off Kurt's wig while Kurt was pulling his tights back up. I love the funny stuff.
Getting to the point before I bore you's to sleep, music is a really exciting because you discover new songs everyday whether it be from the past or present and with disco music you can get up and dance to it. When I go for walks I nearly always listen to my tapes of disco and funk music.
Disco/Funk kicks footy!!!!!

Funky Dude:
You said "soccer" and "football". Are you talking about soccer (english football) and Rugby? :???:
BTW, what is "yobbo"? :???:

Well... talk about tough decisions!!! I'll make this post short.
I'm passionate about a few things in life. Football (What Americans call "Soccer," the one WE play with a round ball) and music are two of those passions. I can't pick one over the other.
As I have mentioned several times before: "There is a time for everything and everything has its time." Right now, it's time for football and the World Cup. If there is no match going on, it is time for music. But, the best time will be when Germany become World Champions and Queen's "We Are The Champions" is playing in the background!!! Football and music, by one of my all-time favorite bands, at the same time!! That will be the time to be in heaven!
Thanx Jazz!!
But, the"yobbos" are everywhere!! Let's take a look at some Hockey games. Jeeez!!!
The "yobbos" are inside the game field, uh?

When I mention yobbos I'm usually talking about the Australian yobbo.
An Australian yobbo is an uncultivated, lazy layed back loudmouth chauvanistic man who hangs out at the pub and gets drunk with his mates or at home watches footy on TV while eating meat pies, drinking beer and smoking Winfield cigarettes. He has a real slurred Aussie accent and swears a lot. The visual description of a yobbo, well yobbos usually have a beer gut, have a few tattoos and wear clothing such as:
old fishing hat
an old black or blue extra large shearer's singlet
flanellette jacket
a pair of stubby football shorts with stripes one side or a tattered pair of jeans
a pair of thongs or steelcap boots
Yobbos may resemble this cartoon character from the Australian comic "Footrot Flats" http://www.oneil.com.au/footrot/ch_wal.shtml
although not all yobbos look like that.
Also here a few pics of the comedian Chris Franklin the guy who did the parody song "Bloke" which he's making fun of the typical Australian yobbo and he resembles a yobbo:

I'm certainly not saying that all Australian men are yobbos, but we have yobbos here and there.
I just like making fun of the Australian yobbo for a bit of a laugh like some Americans like making fun of rednecks and hillbillies and hicks.
Australia mate! The land of many great funkateers!
Thanx for explanation, Funky.
Sorry about my ignorance, you know, we are from quite different cultures.
BTW: I saw the pictures.

I forgot to mention, yobbos in Australia are also called "Ockers".
Some of the American cartoon characters do resemble a yobbo as well such as the blokes off the cartoon "King Of The Hill" who hang together drinking beer especially the guy with the white singlet, and the famous "Homer Simpson" from the Simpsons especially when he's slumped on the couch eating chips and watching grid iron (US footy) on TV. Also Al Bundy off "Married With Children" falls into the yobbo category to a certain extent.
Speaking of footy, I must say American footy (grid iron) is safer to play than Australian footy because they wear helmets and padding whereas Australian footy you just wear shirt and stubby footy shorts and a lot of footy players get injured and their heads are also easily exposed to getting knocked around when some some players do illegal head-high tackles. On the news I hear a lot about footy players getting injuries, I was wondering do you's hear a lot about US grid iron football players getting injured?

I'm into both music and sports (baseball, basketball, hockey, American football, and, yes, soccer). But as a participant, it would definitely be music since I'm not much of an athlete and I've actually had experience as a musician.
