As there was no footie on yesterday  I decided to stay off the web and I recorded the following minidisc compilation instead:

REAL THING - Can You Feel The Force (Jon Luongo remix instr.) (1979)
    MATSUBARA - S.O.S. (1984)
JERRY BUTLER - Coolin' Out (1978)
CONFUNKSHUN - Got To Be Enough (1980)
    S.O.S. BAND - Groovin' (1982)
    BANBARRA - Shack Up (extended 12-inch) (1975)
AL HUDSON - You Can Do It (1979)
    PLEASURE - Glide (1979)
BLUE MAGIC - Just Don't Want To Be Lonely (1974)
LITTLE BEAVER - Party Down (part 2) (1974)
TOMMY TATE - What Gives You The Right (1983)
VERNON BURCH - Fun City (1980)
FINISHED TOUCH - The Down Sound (1979)
    TOUCH - Keep On (1983)
MASS PRODUCTION - Welcome To Our World Of Merry Music (1976)
CHUCK JACKSON - All Over The World (1984?)
CREATIVE SOURCE - Who Is He And What Is He To You? (1974)
TEENA MARIE - It Must Be Magic (91981)
TEENA MARIE - Portugese Love (1981)
    DEXTER WANSELL - Disco Lights
DEXTER WANSELL - I'll Never Forget (My Favourite Disco)
    DEXTER WANSELL - Solutions (1978)

Hope this list gives you as much pleasure as it did me in making it  You can guess which tunes have been inspired by posts on this this Board.

I was listening to it on my MD portable on the train to work today, and shall do the same tomorrow. If Brazil beat England tomorrow  on the train home, then you all know what I am listening to!!

Wow Jazz, where do I begin. You've put together a fantastic compilation here. I especially like how you covered a decade of music from like '74-'83 which demonstrates the evolution of the sound. Some faves in here also like Al Hudson and Teena Marie, but then you threw in my man Vernon Burch. I could see how that train ride was probably very enjoyable and relaxing for once. Great stuff, but then again what else can be expected from the other honorary member of Senhores de Groove. Continue to enjoy.

Thanks, Sammy for your kind words. Coming from a knowledgeable guy like yourself, that is praise indeed!

Interestingly enough, most of my other MDs are themed. Some of the themes are as follows:

    1977 classics,
    Blaxploitation special
    latin influenced music
    Salsoul classics
Disco "Get down and boogie" specials
Roy Ayers special (and you will NEVER guess, Blax, which Roy Ayers track it starts with!!! )
    jazz fusion
    Seventies soul

The minidisc is really good, as I use long play mode and can get two and a half hours' worth of music onto one small MD!!

But last night, I thought I'd just pull out some stuff and throw it all together. And it sounds pretty good to me!!! And, Sammy, may I (in the nicest possible way) correct you - it's not from '74 to '83 but from '74 to 2001! (see first track)

    All the best

Nonetheless Jazz, great compilation to say the least. Your others sound great also. Maybe once a week you should post your list for some of those themed compilations. I would love to see what you have on those. You have peaked my curiosity.

B/T/W Jazz, check out my input on the obscure favorite disco track topic in the Discuss disco & dance music forum. Saw your list and not surprisingly loved it. Blax, I would love to hear your input on that topic, I know you probably have some soul/funk gems I don't even know about. Can't wait.

Blax, I'll just run through those tracks for you:

Matsubara - SOS - It is an instrumental track
with a really solid and meaty 4/4 disco beat, but on the top of this Matsubara (Japanese guitarist) plays some neat jazz guitar solos, and these are interdispersed with 4 or 5 wicked percussion breaks. A superb record running to just over 6 minutes. Was very popular in the clubs I used to go to.

Jerry Butler: the "Ice Man" (as he was known as) recorded this track on Phildelphia International in 1978. He is a traditional "soul man" and the medium tempo track has a nice traditional soulful feel to it, great for dancing to!! Lovely vocal fade out...

Tommy Tate: an obscure independent soul record on a small record label out of Jackson, Mississippi from 1982. Very much in the "soulman mode" again with a definite uptempo Northern Soul feel to it. Superb vocals. Brilliant.

Chuck Jackson: I am really going with this track at the moment as it was played on the Friday night funk show I keep plugging!
I have it on a Northern Soul compilation CD. It is another independent "soulman" record - It has an eighties 4/4 disco beat to it - the bass line is fantastic / really solid - with Chuck Jackson's wonderful vocals over the top. The chorus is a killer. RECOMMENDED!! I've been singing it all weekend!! The best of the four for me at present .... BUY!!!

    Jazz,

Thanx for the track reviews. I really appreciated.

I'm just wonder about this Matsubara's track, you know, instrumental tracks are my musical fetish.

    Thanx.
