Don't get you hopes up too high until you've seen it. If you recall Trevor Nelson's highly inaccurate Soul Nation series, which was heavily criticised, there's a history that hasn't been properly explored. The UK's love of soul music "...was a London scene..." he reckoned.

Hopefully the Beeb will do a better job than Channel Four.

Sounds great but where is the disco episode? Silly of me to ask I know; the only time there are TV shows on disco are when they can talk about the 70s being 'the decade that taste forgot' (groan) & wheel out afro wigs & Bee Gees clips (double groan! ); the real disco music never gets mentioned!

Right on it!!! It also seems to me that WHEN they do a show about disco they always show the same things. When are they gonna produce an underground show where the lesser known Disco trax are included. Even Cerrone complains that he's seldom invited to French television. And when they do a retroshow about the 70's on Belgian TV, they never mention Two Man Sound, Gibson Brothers, Ottawan or Chocolats. A bloody shame!

Hey, wait! May 9th is a Monday, not a Saturday. Is Monday the 9th or Saturday the 7th or...?
    Make that feeling come again!

Maybe it's best that they don't touch disco. As they'd probably go over the same ol' ground: Studio 54 etc, yawn yawn yawn...

its to do with the discovery of a tape deck hidden and connected to d.js decks in a london nightclub playing rare records,im not suggesting it was he,but his bodyguard  openly admitted it, with bootlegging out of control people are concerned

Hi DISCODISK: Terry Lennaine was big on Dalek's too, used to have one himself, which he brought to his 'Get Together's' in the 70's - must be some kind of soulful Dalek connection!

thats cool GREG 8) never heard about that theres a guy got one here too made from the original b.b.c mould, where i lived a couple of years ago overlooked his shop and he had this nicely lit up in the window and was the view from my lounge 8) hes spent $$$$ on it and it can go on the road, dont know if you can remember you may bee a bit too young there was a great dalek exhibition in blackpool it recreated their spaceship you walked in and there was silence then suddenly they all came out and followed you round and prodded you one even pinned me in the corner and threatened to exterminate me :o one of my greatest memories as a kid 8)
also in early school days this kid won one one of the original ones in a b.b.c competition his mother wouldnt let him keep it in the house,it had to stay in the garden and it rusted..... and it rusted.............

I wasn't expecting 8 episodes of people writhing around at the Paradise Garage but how can you do a series about soul without mentioning Philadelphia? And to be honest....Beyonce is not nor has she ever been a soul artist. And where are the 80s??

Seems like its just gonna be another Ray Charles/James Brown etc etc etc. series....nothing wrong with that but its certainly not a history of soul!

God you're so right lovebug. You just know that there'll be no mention of Lolleatta Holloway or Barbara Pennington or Carl Bean. I think it's very well-made as these type of progs go but it's all so predictable isn't it? :(
