    BLONDIE - ATOMIC

Was "Atomic" ever released as a 12" single? I always loved this song and that awesome break in the middle just BEGS to be extended. 8)

There was a very very rare test pressing 12'' that came out right when the single was first released with a 12'' disco mix on it. The disco remix is..no other way to put it..FUCKING AWSOME! It runs a little over 8 mins long and has that extra thump and some minimal midrange remixing (like the typical 12'' remix of the era) to it and a nice long break. I dont own one of these and only know it and have heard it from a friend of mine who owns one. Ive been looking for a while myself trying to find one and notta..its almost like my buddy has the only copy in exsistance

    Frank,
I have "Atomic" on a British 12" that clocks in at 3:50, which has a nice pic cover. Thought I had this in the Vault, so I'll need to add it later.

How I would love to hear this original 12" version!! I wonder if it was ever released on a CD comp.

I have a double pack remix from 1995 on chrysalis/brilliant/emi records. It has a "NEW DISCO MIX" version on it which clocks in at 7:56. It sounds much like the original LP version on EAT TO THE BEAT, but very extended. They didn't do much with the existing middle break; however, the ending is different with a long instrumental section and the drums doing these extra fills.

Do you think this is a re-release of the original test-pressing single your talking about? I can link a sample to it.

Here is the last 1:37 of the track. Notice how it ends. Much to my dismay, the beginning and middle section of this mix go nowhere.

DJ Jimmy M, let me know if this is it (the test-pressing version).

Naa that is defenatly not the test pressing 12'' mix from when it originaly came out. That one from the sample you just gave kinda sounded like they just took the break, re-EQd it with more bass and added a few cymbal crashes over the original LP mix and pulled some extra stuff from deep in the mix of the original master..kinda like a classic disco mix "simulation" done analog with a slight digital enhancement in a way. I would love to get my hands on that test press my friend has.

As already mentioned, therewas a UK 12" but it was the same length as the 7" version. There were numerous remixes in the 90s that were longer. On the CD single released in 1994 there was a 'New disco mix' which ran at 7.56mins which was basically like the original version but longer and the bass beat a little louder. Cat no; CDCHSS5013.
