Barely Breaking Even - Universal Robot Band

I have been scouring the web to hear a sample of this track. I have looked in all the usual places, including Limewire but with no joy! Has anyone got a sure fire link to a place where this track may be?

    Many thanks in advance!

I wouldn't worry too much. It's hardly the most riveting piece of music ever made, despite the hype that once surrounded it.

You can hear a minute at juno records website on a Dimitri fom Paris CD. Just type in barely breaking even in the search box.

Hey Quinny, i used to live in Southampton (Millbrook) many moons ago. Dated a crisp looking honey from Locks Heath...ahh memories. I passed through last year on the way to Poole, but could find no decent second hand shops. Are there any?

Thanks Quinny - followed the instructions clicked on Barely breaking Even and downloaded a Spanish version of McFadden & Whitehead's Ain't No Stopping US Now, song by what sounded like a strangled chicken! That surely can't be the track!!

That could be Charanga 76's version. I'm sure I've heard some people really rate that version which I couldn't understand. :-?

Headlamp: yeah, strange things like that can happen. Click on the track in the 3rd CD where it is a searate track and not in a mix.

Discofresh: No, there aren't any decent 2nd hand shops that I know of:

Millbrook, eh? were you slumming it?

Thanks Quinny, I tend to agree with you - It still sounds 'fresh' for a track made in 1981/2 but I'm not convinced its worth £102 which was the price of a 12" on ebay recently! :o

    Barely Breaking Even

Hi this is John Morales I had the pleasure of mixing this track as well as many other URB tracks, I was reciently looking for a copy of the 12" to add to my catalogue and was amazed by what it is commanding. I know my work was good  But ..WoW

Anyway I was able to locate a UK streetwave version of it, If anyone would like a copy I can send a MP3 to you ..

    thanks...john

John - Your work wasn't good it was (and still is) awesome! Here in London there is, I feel, the beginning of a revival of good disco music. I was at a gig last night where 300 people were dancing to the sounds of 70's/80's. I think a lot of afficianados of House music are looking for the roots of House.

Yes please - I'd love a copy of Barely Breaking Even. I even promise to play it! If there is anything else in your collection that you fancy passing my way I'd be very grateful.

This doesn't surprise me as there seems to be nothing new that is interesting lately so people look to the classics at times like this!

And in Belgium things are heating up. We are working on projects in different cities, vintage Disco and Funk only and they will be starting soon. When da stuff will be launched I let you know the details in the subforum!

BTW i do like the Universal Robot Band a lot but they are not my favourite thingies.
