My first dj gig was in a club that played " Tejano " and country music along with rock. We used a Sony cd player and I would cue up song after song and did what I call "cuts". We also had Techincs turntable so I would bring in my 12'' dance music and mix but I wonder I know there were nightclubs were the dj's didnt "beatmix" so I would think there would have been other nightclubs using cd players and replacing there turntables.
