    Joe & Valerie

Anyone remember a t.v. show called "Joe and Valerie" that was on in the late 70's? I can't recall who was in it.

"Joe And Valerie" starred Paul Regina and the gone-and-forgotten Char Fontane (Fred "Prink Rady" Silverman seemed to imagine that she had talent and charisma, and he was wrong on both counts). It started out as a "disco sitcom", then morphed into a ho-hum non-disco sitcom as the anti-disco backlash reared its head.

Boodi, I've never seen it. And quite honestly, I've never heard about it.

What do you mean by "Disco sitcom"? Was it the setting or atmosphere? Can you give me some details pleazzz? Thx.

Hi Video! "J & V" dealt with the lives of lower-middle-class kids who worked in blah jobs by day, but partied hard in the disco by night. It ran from April-May 1978 (with the disco background), then returned (disco-less and boring) in January 1979 as a poor man's "Bridget Loves Bernie" (he's Italian, she's not). Lasted a month (quelle surprise).

CBS or ABC also had a disco sitcom (NOT David Naughton's "Making It") that ran in the spring of '78. It had a really strange setting...the club had a pizza/fast food concession inside of it! We used to wonder if that was an L.A. thing. Anyway, I cannot for the life of me remember the name of this short-lived disco sitcom.

"Making It" was another take on the lower-middle-class kid who loved dancing...used to remind me of a discofied "Happy Days" for some reason.

There were a slew of "disco" episodes on the network series from '77-'79: "Family" (with SATURDAY NIGHT FEVER actor Paul Pape), "Starsky and Hutch", Adam Arkin's "Busting Loose"...but the best disco TV moment was on "Barnaby Jones". You haven't lived until you see the corpse-like Buddy Ebsen do the hustle in something akin to slow-motion!

Remember George Jefferson when he gets bit by the Disco bug and was wearing gold chains and staying out late? Funny stuff if you catch it on reruns.

Loved that episode of "The Jeffersons" when George and Helen caught boogie fever, Bernie!

Maybe we should put together a list of all the discotized episodes of 70s television. As long as we can remember the guest stars of the individual episodes, it wouldn't be hard to do (using IMDB).

Thanx for the info. I'm afraid the re-runs can't be seen in Europe and it will not be available on DVD here. At this moment we are re-enjoying "Taxi" here. Quite amusing!

I vaguely remember an episode of "The Love Boat" that was disco oriented. I believe Lisa Hartman was in it.

Was searching through the threads and found this. Soooo glad someone else remembered this show besides me.....LOL!!! The first season was "so cool" in it's day, the second season got rid of the disco theme and it was boring. What a shame that three of the main characters, Valerie (Char Fontaine), Joe (Paul Regina), and Frank (Bill Beyers) have passed away. I wish (but doubt) this would be released on DVD.

Wow, I didn't know three of the leads had died. Two of them within the last few years and quite young.
