Don't Step On The Gown, Darling!!

Do you think the Oscars have become more about who wore what rather than acting talent?

I don't remember Oscar fashions being that big of a thing in the 70's and early 80's. Now it seems one star is trying to out do the other.

I share your opinion, the Oscars have become the Hollywood Fashion Show Catwalk in which like you say who designed the dress or tux and the jewels matter more than the real acting talent...

Isn't that what life in the 21st century has become? Everything is about image & superficiality. :(

Have you seen Mr. Pacino? The man was wearing a tuxedo that, I think, he bought 20 years ago and still he was GREAT, just by his pose and his words. If you have the right attitude you can wear just anything.

I get annoyed when the media bitches about someone like Diane Keaton who wears 'eccentric' or different clothes to these ceremonies & not the usual off-the-shoulder designer gowns. These days nobody is encouraged to be different which I can't understand because in other ways there is alot more freedom than there used to be.

That's a great point about society today in general.

First you watch someone like Uma Thurman on the screen, raising hell in Kill Bill, and you think wow, here's someone with style, what a woman! Then you see Uma all dressed up just like any Hollywood star, showing a lot of flesh yet not looking half as sexy as she did in her biker outfit. What a disappointment. The Oscars only make one go back to the films of the late 60's and the early 70's when they really knew how to dress and how to shed it all. Check out Ursula Andress undress in the 10th Victim - the woman of today indeed has a lot to learn.
