I've just watched the news last night and there was this major article about some scientists in Canberra, Australia who have successfully demonstrated teleportation. What they did was teleported a laser beam one metre from transmitter to receiver and the computers measured it as successfully teleported. This experiment is going to lead to a new form of computer data transmission making computers millions of times faster than the computers we have at present and also data transmission with 100% security.

As for teleporting humans like in Star Trek, maybe several hundred years down the track at least, if the teleporting machines can break down matter, transmit it and re-assemble the matter in its original without killing the person in the process or re-assembling it the wrong way.

This article should be on the news all over the world since it's a big scientific breakthrough.

So have any of you's seen this article on the news or in the papers yet?

And what do you's think of the benefits of teleportation?

I think the idea of signal teleportation in computer networking would be a real benefit for the internet because it would mean being able to watch live streaming video at the smoothest frame rate without jitters, being able to download music, games etc... by the truck load, the benefits of this new technology are endless.

I'm fascinated by this stuff. I'm an Art Bell listener so I'm drawn to the unusual. Let me check into this. Hey Funky, is there a link for this?

I've just watched the news today and saw and article that in Victoria, Australia some scientists are developing some sort of biolgical composition that rebuilds T cells to help raise the immunity for cancer and HIV/AIDS patients.

Also I think I've read that Silicon was discovered by an Aussie.

So we are offering some good inventions from time to time.

By the way I'm a Neighbours fan and I watch both the old episodes and the new episodes. Great soap opera.

And NickNack here are a couple of links one to an article on this invention and the other to the google search engine results for this teleportation experiment:

    Media releases - http://www.anu.edu.au/pad/media/rele...eportation.htm

    Google Search - http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&i...=Google+Search

This new breakthough has only just been demonstrated 3 weeks ago, so I don't think there's any websites whacked up on the web yet.

    Hi FUNKY,

well, a few years ago I read an article about teleportation - the guy who wrote the article said that teleportation is physically possible. You've mentioned some of the benefits of teleportation and you're right, its impact on the global communications will be tremendous.

About the negative side of teleportation: does anyone here remember the graphic novel WATCHMEN ?

The current star Trek series Enterprise only takes place 150-160 years in the future.
Given the way computer technology seems to
expand expodentally on a regu;lar basis,I say 150 years could be right.

    OTOH it may be sooner.
