Hey JD,
Check out "Freedom Sound" and "Baila Mi Gente", both great Poncho Sanchez cds!
'Doggie here:
A while ago I received a record from Concord by Poncho Sanchez. Call it fate or karma; I put it on today 'cause I wanted to hear something different. It turns out Ray Charles plays along with this superb Latin/Afro-Cuban/Soul band on his famous "One Mint Julep" and "Mary Ann."
I can certainly see where a nice Latin-ized (more so than the original) "One Mint Julep" -- esp. if sped up a wee bit -- could be a dance sensation. I, for one, am gonna try it on a "lounge/dance" crowd.

Dear Keith RS:
I will check 'em both out... I'm going through a "Latin" phase that encompasses everything from great singers doing Bossa-Nova takes on the Standards, to Lounge, to Disco, to Latin Jazz.
I just added the obscure Noro Morales 1960 opus "Holiday in Havana" to my collection after searching everywhere for a good copy. Lookup Noro Morales. Even better, you can hear some of it on my personal site at http:pages.cthome.net/paul888.
Best to you, friend in things jazzical,
