If they built a time machine....

If scientists built a time machine where you could travel back to any time period for one hour, how far back would you go?

There is one hitch: You cannot relive a personal life event (e.g. wedding, graduation, etc.)

I would like to travel back to NYC circa 1974-75 and visit early discos.

Back to the early seventies 71-74 when disco was not commercialized and the music was memorable.
Different eyes see different things. Different hearts beat on different strings. But there are times for you and me when all such things agree...Rush

Would this time machine allow me to go forward too?

Predictable for a gay guy on this site I know, but I'd love to go back to the late 70s & early 80s & live in New York so i could visit The Saint, The Anvil, Paradise Garage, Studio 54 (assuming I got past the velvet rope that is!), The Palladium, Roseland, Infinity, Fire Island & any other cool & fabulous place where they played glamorous & exciting disco for hours on end. :P

Back to the period 74-79, the glorydays of disco and when my parents were introducing the Discoclubsounds on their famous bumpercartrack which by many customers was called a "travelling discotheque".

What an atmosphere, what a great era! But too bad I wasn't born earlier (1963) coz when all those superrecords came out, I didn't have enough pocketmoney to buy them and that's why I had/have to look in so many shops to purchase the things I missed.

And then the cars :D The great BMW 635 csi!!! I have one now though :D

Oo don't start me on 70s cars. The Lancia Beta Monte Carlo is my all-time favourite but the Lamborghini Miura runs it a close 2nd for most beautiful car ever. Sports cars these days just aren't as exciting to look at, even if they are better to drive! :P My new Smart Roadster is lovely to drive I must admit. 8)

Well, if they go to all the trouble of building the damn thing, why can I only spend an hour?? :o

It would also be much more useful if it not only took me back in time, but took off a bunch of years from my age...

I would transport myself back to a kindler gentler time....

When cereal cost 89 cents not $3.89.

    When only sailors had tatoos.

When people didn't walk up and down store aisles with a headset and cellphone.

When AIDS (spelled AYDS) was a diet candy.

When the Pledge of Allegiance didn't offend people.

My mum used have those AYDS in the early 70s when I was in short trousers (thanks Quinny!) - I used to steel them when she wasn't looking! If she caught me she'd say 'they are not sweets David' but they sure tasted like sweets. No wonder I've never put on alot of weight, although now I'm nearing the dreaded 40 mark the pounds are beginning to increase :( (lbs that is & not £s, unfortunately! )

I'd like to go back to around October of 1979:

    No answering machines
    NO cell phones!
People drove big-ass cars, not these tin can econo-boxes
No internet-and no need for it
    guys wore their pants tighter
More reasonable rents!-You could afford to live in Boston!
    we weren't innundated with immigrants
    no reality shows
    less traffic
    no handicapped parking
you could find a reasonable job without having a masters degree.

Most of all, I'd like to go to Strawberries Records & Tapes and get multiple copies of every 12" single they had that I liked.

I couldn't agree with you more Rab on these 5 items. 1979 has got to be the best year of all-time! :P
