Definitely agree on Donna Summer's "Autumn Changes," which is a song I raved about a few years ago. Had overlooked this song until I flipped the record over and just loved it.
hi,
I am watching the discussion about the songs that you erase forever and I have to say that it s great and very comprehensive.
Let ma ask you the opposite now!!!
Which is/are the songs that have been "under estimated"
I am giving a general idea
"Genius of love" by Tom Tom club is considered classic, but I prefer "Wordy Rapping hood"
I agree with you about "Dancing Queen"but "money money money isn t so bad.......
If you had the choice, which songs would you make great hits?(commercial, popular e.t.c)
Here is my list
Dying to be dancing - Empress (Why "try it out" by Ginno Soccio was greatest hit)
I am in love - Evelyn King(for me better than "shame")
Dont drop my love - Anita Ward
Autumn changes - Donna Summer(one of the greatest song ever made and not a hit)
How long - Lipps Inc(better than Funkytown)
Iam waiting for your lists[/b]
Definitely agree on Donna Summer's "Autumn Changes," which is a song I raved about a few years ago. Had overlooked this song until I flipped the record over and just loved it.

I think one of the problems with the disco era, particularly in 1979 was that there was really too many excellent songs coming out all at one time.
One 12" single that got entirely too little play was "Tonight I Feel Like Dancing" by Mavis Staples. This song was really spactacular, and I don't think it has ever been mentioned on this website, or is it listed with Bernie's Archive. Everybody into disco that I've played this song for, has loved it and asked me to put it on tape for them. Usually, I hear comments like, "I can't believe it? This song was out in 1979 and I never heard it?"
Please consider adding this record to the Vault as I don't have it. Add it here:Originally Written by Rab

I'll Tell You-Sergio Mendes Brazil'88 (1979).Great latin rythmns with a funky jazzy edge. :P

This was huge in NYC and played on the radio all the time. Guess it was different north of the border.Originally Written by originalbigm

THE GREATEST SHOW ON EARTH by Metropolis---Salsoul meets the Munich Machine.
THIS WILL BE A NIGHT TO REMEMBER - Eddie Holman--Salsoul classic; sorta "underground"
EVOLUTION - Giorgio Moroder
-b-side of "Battlestar Galactica"; "popper disco" at it's darkest; a little trip to hell & back.![]()
"Lost inside adorable illusion...."
The soft Bohannon...
Thoughts And Wishes is much better than Disco Stomp
:)
Roy Thode -- who I've always respected as the No. 1 utilizer of such otherwise garbage as Moroder's "Star Wars" etc., had passed, I think, but there was a youngster named Robbie Leslie at the helm at the Red Parrot on a non-distinct evening in the fall or spring (some sort of grey days) shortly after it came out -- we weren't using poppers, but darling, we were sure using something else and when this came on, it was just the right time for it not to be cheesy.Originally Written by "markydefad[b
Love
Paul - a.k.a. Judydoggie
- Yours, musically
JudyDoggie (neither a girl nor a dog: if you were in disco in NYC 15-25 yrs ago u know)
Although way off in beats...
I prefer Taana Gardners Work That Body over the bigger smash Heartbeat
actually I prefer genius of love over wordy rappinghood. perhaps chicks on speed ruined this song.. also, I've just discovered a ron hardy edit of genius and it is genius indeed! takes the track to a whole new level.
but to stay on the whole tom tom club thing, I've always found lorelei a bit underappreciated. and especially the instrumental version which is a whole new track in itself!
I have found an lp from 1981 titled "to the point"by Kwick.Much to my surprise I found a "hidden diamond" in this record. It is the second track from the first side called "Split Decision".It sounds like a part II of Funkadelic s One nation under a groove.I think that it hasn t released as a single(correct me if I am wrong)
Tracks that I think shoulda been big hits are:
'If You Want Me' - Barbara Roy
'1979 Its Dancing Time' - Revanche
'Touch Me Baby' - Ultimate
'Hot Butterfly' - Bionic boogie
'Never Gonna Be the Same' - Ruth Waters
'Let Somebody Love You' - Keni Burke
'Questionnaire' - Chaz Jankel
'Hip Shake Jerk' - The Quick
'Dr.Mabuse' - Propaganda
'Fascinated' - Company B
'The Heaven I Need' - 3 Degrees
Probably several hundred, but one I was thinking about recently is......
Dominic Troiano - We All Need Love
Understated exhuberance. Marvellous synth solo that soars and liberates.
ERNEST "DONNY" DONABLE - the fez
DC LA RUE - cathedrals
PAUL JACKSON - in the heat of your love

This is one of the most underrated Discorecords ever IMHO. It has an infectuous rhythm and the sensual voice of DC Larue fits perfectly in it. One of my all time faves!Originally Written by LITTLE SCOTTY
I much prefer 'Let Them Dance' and always reckoned Cathedrals was rather over-hyped.Originally Written by Videoskooter
One man's meat.........
It was a big hit here in North America :)Fascinated' - Company B

"Cathedrals " is a good one .... anyone else also partial to LaRue's "Deep Dark Delicious Night "? ........... The record I had hoped would become a really big hit was Sylvester's "DISCO HEAT". A huge club record , but it didn't get enough radio play ( being on a small independent label didn't help) and it stalled on the Hot 100 at #19, denying Sylvester the smash hit that could've catapulted him into deserved superstardom. I always thought he'd make it onto the cover of People magazine and be included on its' year end list of most interesting people.....

You're lucky 'cos it sank without a trace here in the (Y)UK. But then again Diana Ross's 'Chain Reaction' was a huge hit here & it was a relative flop in North America in the same year ('86) so some you win, some you lose!
I liked "Precious Moments" from the Nightlife Unlimited album.
"Hold Tight" by Change, "San Francisco Hustle", Silver Convention "My Love is Free" Double Exposure, "Can't We Just Sit Down (and talk it over)?" Donna Summer, "This Side of Midnight", Gregg Diamond's Starcruiser, "Be With You", Sylvester, "Music of Life", Cerrone
I reckon Main Ingrediant - An Evening of loving featuring Cuba Gooding. justa delicious infectious classic for me. I also reckon alot of Ashford & Simpson was good to do some damage. Maybe "Love dont always make it right", "Found a cure" and "it seems to hang on" to name a few.
