This is no disco-track indeed, but maybe someone knows it as well...
I taped this song back in 87, and I'm looking for it ever since then!!!
Here's the link:

I checked every Sade record, Loose ends and Matt Bianco, but it's none of them...
Please! I really like to know who did this beautiful song!!!

Hmmm, interesting, why do you think so?
(vocals, specific sounds?)
Anyway, it doesn't really make things easier for me,
there are a lot of british artists
:)
:o And I thought it sounded like Vanessa Williams. Can't find anything though. Sorry.
Hi, not sure but it could be an album track off the 1st Swing Out Sister album. Just a thought.
maybe basia?? she used to be a member of matt bianco and she made her solo records with a member of matt bianco.
I was listening to their 1st album, but couldn't find the song I'm looking for. Nice Band though, never heard from this group before...thanks anywayHi, not sure but it could be an album track off the 1st Swing Out Sister album. Just a thought.
Couldn't find anything from her that is similar to the song. Basia has also a more powerful voice, than the singer on this track.maybe basia?? she used to be a member of matt bianco and she made her solo records with a member of matt bianco.
Keep searching! Somebody gotta know...I hope so  [/quote]
Yo! Give it another try...
Maybe some new members know this song...
qdearl?
You always helped me out with those 80's soul pearls
thanks!
I'm thinking in the same direction as Davicillo. This sounds so "Swing Out Sister" to me.
Maybe try the soundsamples on this link. Good luck!

Lol! thanks for the vote of confidence, I'm lookin' butOriginally Written by Phoster
nothing yet....... I REALLY thought it was "Hiroshima" but I checked all their LP's up to 1990 and nada. I'll keep trying though,
(...'cause the track is hot and now I want it too....)

I must confess that I cannot hear the link. But there was a very very rare group on Epic called Smoke City. The group consisted of atleast two girls and a guy. There's a song called "Dreams" and there was some proto-disco/dance music on the album.
What are some lyrics because this era is my main focus of collecting.
I was able to hear the track and its not "Dreams" but may be Smoke City.
It is not a white group like Swing out Sister. It does sound like some rare Loose Ends. It is probably not a major artist and may have came out of Chicago or Philly or even London. It may be produced by Nick Martenilli or Barry Eastmond. It sounds like late 1987 or early 1988.
There was also an obscure artist named Kat Miller on Solar records in 1986.
There was also a group on 10 records called 52nd street and were much in the vein of Loose ends.
It's not Deja which evolved from Aurra but you may want to try Skyy's 1986 album on Capital/salsoul.
Could this song be as late as 1989?
I checked 52nd St's 1985 & 1987 LP's, so you can cross those off....the hunt continues....
This is definetely not Skyy. I'm actually thinking Loose Ends here. It has Nick Martinelli written all over it, but the woman singing is not Jane Eugene. She did leave the group at some point though...this could be after she was replaced.
Nick Martinelli worked with Rose Royce in 1987 on an Lp called "Fresh cut". I do not have it nor a track listing but there are some ballads on it. It's only another educated guess because they kept on changing lead singers.
You could also try "Side effect".
I am also thinking the track may be called "Stay" and not "Dignity". Is there more of it because the title could be in the last half of the chorus if even at all.
Could it possibly be a duet?
This has totally peaked my curiosity. I thought I knew this era extremely thoroughly. I still think it could be '88 or '89.
It's not Rose Royce either. At least not from the "Fresh Cut" LP since I've had that one for years.
I strongly believe now that this is on a contemporary jazz album but I can't place it.
It's too synthesized for Norman Connors or Gene Dunlap.
Maybe something Paul Hardcastle produced. He produced a group called Kiss the Sky but that was in the 90's.
What also hurts is the music format shift in the 1980's and the fact that many databases like allmusic are spotty in this era.
THESE QUESTIONS ARE SPECIFICALLY FOR PHOSTER:
Is the name of the track assumed to be "Dignity" ?
What are any other variations of title?
Where is this recording from (radio station)?
Why is there a skip in the track if it is from tape?
WOW!
I was on holiday (without access to the web), I come back and now this...!
First I wanna thank all you guys for diggin in the crates and coming up with suggestions! amazing! :D
To answer your questions:
Is the name of the track assumed to be "Dignity" ?
-> No, not all...it's just how I named the file. The title could be "stay" as someone mentioned
What are any other variations of title?
-> maybe "don't stop" / "carry on" / "teasing me" / "can't stop the nights "(?)...well it's hard to say
I could place some further samples...but it's all choped and there's also a piano solo
Where is this recording from (radio station)?
-> It's from a swiss radio station. I guess they used to play charts and a bit of everything from this period. Not very helpful. As far as I remember I must have taped it in 86/87, surely no later than 88.
Why is there a skip in the track if it is from tape?
-> Yea...good old tape. I was still a kid back then and was just foolin around with my ghettoblaster :D
Later I discovered what a beautiful track I've recorded
But I guess you're heading in the right direction, could be on a contemporary jazz record. I also have to check more of Nick Martinelli's work, it's absolutely his style!
The hunt continues...
Link is very disjointed for me....plays jerkily for 5 seconds then stops to buffer etc, etc.
Could it be the Rah Band?
Nobody's mentioned this group on this post. How about Shades of love or BBQ? They always changed lead singers and remained active until the mid 1980's.
Just bringing this back up again. I'm thinking some of the newer posters may know it.
I also may bump into it as I am buying many late 80's artists on Amazon using the feature of what other people also bought and reccommended. I'm also looking at all CDs certain sellers are selling in this era.
Since this post began, I've come across another possibility, and maybe all you posters across the ocean in the UK can check into this, there is a group call "The Cool Notes" that I stumbled across, very Nick Martinelli-ish with a female lead, I cannot get any background info on their releases other than they were a UK band, and all the mp3's I've been able to get, suggest strongly that it may be them.....
The Cool Notes were a late 1970s lover rock outfit from Brixton who found success with some disco material in the 1980s:

Hey eddie, thanks for bringin' the topic back up again...
Because I still wanna know!!!
I checked some other work by Nick Martinelli (like his production work for Regina Belle), but couldn't find this song. Once I thought it could be Phyllis Hymans voice...but couldn't find anything either.
I guess I got to go diggin for records by the COOL NOTES (nice band though, never heard of them before)
