What's she doing on this site I hear you ask; the singer who had a hit in '88 with that dreadful 'The First Time' (from a Coca Cola ad if I remember right?). Well my lovely disco citizens, I recently discovered her LP from '79 called 'Sweet Talk' & was very surprised (some of you may be familiar with this record already). The title track sounds very Chic-like & the LP is produced by Kenny Lehman (Lemon, Roundtree/Sugar, Chic, etc.) & mixed by Godfrey Diamond (Gregg's brother) ; hell, even the cover was photographed on Fire Island, N.Y.- how cool is that?! So many artists from every conceivable musical background dabbled with the disco sound in '79 didn't they? I know many of you will say they did it to cash in & to jump on the bandwagon but I for one truly wish that all of today's 'artists' would start making '79-style disco music, for whatever reason, cash or whatever; I don't care, just bring back disco!! :P
Melissa Manchester, considered to be very MOR and all, did some great (what we Londoners call) two-step in the '70s. "Holding onto the Loving." by her is a good example. Also, "Your Place Or Mine." These are not flat out disco tracks, but more soulful than you would expect this particular singer to perform.
