    Challenging lyrics: Doctor Love

Doctor Love is one of my very favorite disco songs. In 1982 my girlfriend and I wrote to Salsoul records to settle a bet about the missing lyrics below (at about the middle of the song).

What are the missing lyrics? (the answer will surprise you).

"...He can cure my every pain
He can make me well again
    Doctor Love
    (chorus, Doctor Love)

    He aint got no competition
    Only he writes my prescription
    Doctor Love
    (chorus, Doctor Love)

    He don't need no ________ ________
    Cause he operates at night
    Doctor Love
    (chorus, Doctor Love)

What he does is keep me well
What he does I'll never tell..."

    GOOD LUCK!

I'll place the original Salsoul letter on the website when we have a winner.

If you want the rhyme scheme to be right it must be something
like " office light " , makes sense in a way also :-)

Oh, yes; you're right - the office LIGHT

"Dr. Love" is in my humble opinion one of the most sadly forgotten, most soulful, entertainingly danceable disco songs -- and certainly First Choice's best.

I just put it on to make sure. I'ts office Light -- and I'll bet money on it -- I'll even send you 'scope waves and EQ isolations to prove my point. (email paul@asianfusion.net)

(As an aside, my wife, to this day, cannot understand why I can listen to the 12" version, sometimes twice or more times in a row -- even after I've told her that the key to the song is the nuance of the tiny changes, and the marvelously gospel-inspired howlings of the singers as the song winds to its end - cued by a machine-gun on the snare drum which I'm sure was very, very helpful to the dee jays because it certainly signals "it's time to get ready to mix into the next cut; you've got yourself about two minutes.")

    - Paul (a.k.a. Judydoggie)
    - Yours, musically
