During the disco era as you all know a lot of rockers had a crack at doing disco as well and a lot dominated the charts too. Anyhow from what the rockers released for disco and funk here's my list of what I consider the best disco and funk songs from a rock artist:

    Funk:
Rolling Stones - Hot Stuff 1976 (SO FUNKY!!!)
    David Bowie - Fame/Golden Years/We're The Young Americans 1975
Skyhooks - Party To End All Parties 1977
Silver Studs - Funky Feet 1977
Roxy Music - Love Is The Drug 1975

    Disco:
Mud - Shake It Down 1976
Glitter Band - Makes You Blind 1975
Wings - Goodnight Tonight 1979 (I LOVE THOSE CLAPPING STICKS!!!)
John Paul Young - The Day That My Heart Caught Fire 1978
    Boz Scaggs - Lowdown 1976

So what do you's consider the best funk and disco songs from a rock artist?

Sparks - Beat The Clock 1979
In Dury & The Blockheads - Hit Me With Your Rhythm Stick 1978 (Go the double sax playing)
Jonathon King - One For You, One For Me 1978 (I love those rainbow coloured clown afros they were wearing on Top Of The Pops)

I love the Elton John's version of "Are you ready for love?".

But don't forget "Don't stop the music" by the Bay City Rollers, "Let me take you dancin'" by Bryan Adams, "Streetplayer" by Chicago, "Don't let go" by Tony Orlando, "LOVE" by Demis Roussous, "One chain" by Santana

"One of These Nights" by the Eagles is awesome from beginning to end - my personal favorite rock-artist disco song. I also enjoyed "Miss You" by the Rolling Stones" and "Streetplayer" by Chicago.

If we're talking dance songs then it goes like this:

The Thompson Twins - In the Name of Love
Talking Heads - Once in a Lifetime
The Clash - The Magnificent Seven/Dance
Time Bandits - Live it Up
The Human League - Don't you want me

    Just to name a few....

Disco with the funk: Wild Cherry - Play that Funky music

    Boz Scaggs - Lowdown

    Back to the music....

"One Of These Nights" by the Eagles is disco?? Ohhhhh..kay...

I do like Paul McCartney's "Goodnight Tonight" as well.

One song that also had a disco flavor to it but wasn't exactly by a rock group was Seals and Crofts' "You're The Love" (1978). They were soft-rock but this song had a great disco break in the middle that just sounded so good.

Actually, I don't think that "One Of These Nights" is a disco song, but since someone else here thinks it is, I decided to put it on my list since I like the song. But hey, what's in a label anyways? I think you know the rest.

Disco songs by a rock artist:

Santana - "One Chain Don't Make No Prison"
Average White Band - "Lets Go Round Again"
Tom Johnston/Doobie Bros. - "Savannah Nights"

Also, "Seesaw" by the Moodie Blues is very mixable.

My personal 'Disco'/'Funk' song by a rock artist is Bryan Adam's 'Let Me Take You Dancin'. It was his FIRST release (so maybe he was a DISCO artist turned into a ROCKER!) and in IMOHP his best!!

Some of my favourite pieces of FUNK by a Rock artist have to be:-
Thomas Dolby - May The Cube Be With You
    Peter Gabriel - Sledge Hammer
    Phil Collins - Sussudio
Matt Fearon - Dance it Up
Nick Kearshaw - I Won't Let The Sun Go Down On Me
Art Of Noise - Peter Gunn Theme
One or two maybe iffy I know, but thety certainly worked on the dancefloor, mixed with real funky stuff.

I personally can't stand "Sledgehammer" by Peter Gabriel.

In 1978 Frank Zappa did a funny and ridicolous song "Lemme Take You To The Beach" (2:44), maybe he was funning with Bee Gees.
