SENHORES DO GROOVE - BRAZIL
I somewhat agree with Blaxman but I do like here first release 'How Will I Know' but the mix of it on the 'Ultimix' service. The disc-jockey added some nice 'triples' (using three turntables to have a song repeat a phrase or lyric three times). That mix added life to the song and made Whitney sound better than in her past releases. All the best, DJ Phil
Oh, come on people. Sure, Miss Whitney is little more than a punchline these days--thanks to a bad attitude, a creepy marriage and an "alleged" drug problem--but way back when "I Wanna Dance With Somebody" was a huge hit, and fun to dance to as well.
"I'm Every Woman" was very enjoyable too, and another big hit--even if only because it gave gay guys a chance to release their inner drag queen.
It was all downhill after that though, thanks to her bitch diva attitude and her attempts to grab some street cred by hooking up with the hip hop crowd. ZZZ

I must admit that my personal favorite by her is
How will I know
it is the only whitney houston song
that has the strength
to be played a couple of times in a week withgout sounding
monotone and boring at the end of that week,,,,
I donīt think that Whitney made never a
disco-song, except as feat. on a MICHAEL
ZAGER record. Why donīt you talk about her
mother???

It's not right but it's ok (Thunderpuss 2000 mix) would be my alltime fav from her.
Any of the ones that haven't been released... especially if they never will be!
For me, "Love Will Save The Day" and the Disconet Remix of "So Emotional". Not disco? After reading the extremely convoluted thread on "When/Where Did Eurodisco Begin", I'm going to stick with our long-lost friend, Maarten --- I'M SICK OF LABELS!

Hi SUTNOP,
I love HOW WILL I KNOW, from her classic first album. And I love STEP BY STEP too - the original recording, not the lousy remix included on her compilation!
I WILL ALWAYS LOVE YOU ALL,
zeca azevedo
i agree with NICKNACK love will save the day, a topic about her mothers(cissy)records would have been far less scary now theres a singer............
Cissy Houston - Think it over was a hit in New York, big time.On 2002-06-12 10:50, sirius wrote:

I remember when American Bandstand (National) and Soul Alive (N.Y.C.) Dance Shows were big on playing this tune.![]()
Keep the faith and everything will come your way as time marches on!
Coincidentally, I posted this message on a different thread earlier this week:
<< Speaking of Cissy Houston, on a whim yesterday I pulled out her "Warning: Danger" EP and played the title track. When someone posted a question a while back about a song with sirens I totally forgot about this one.
"Warning" is an awesome song; unfortunately as the '80s progressed, lyrics like "this love affair could be hazardous to you" suddenly didn't play too well anymore.... >>

As far as Dance Remixes, honorable mention goes to Whitney Houston - Queen of the Night
Hot!!!!!!!!

The terms "best" and "Whitney Houston" are mutually exclusive, unless used in the following examples: "Whitney Houston went shopping for the best crack." "Whitney Houston thought Bobby Brown would make the best merkin."
Now Cissy was a disco near-diva, with "Think It Over" and her Zager back-up work. Lord Of Flatbush, did you also see her on SOAP FACTORY in the summer of 1978?

I thought "How Will I Know" was pretty good. I also liked "So Emotional".

I truly forgot about mentioning Soap Factory for Cissy Houston's appearance on that show.On 2002-06-14 13:41, Boodikka wrote:

It was excellent! I'm going to the record show @ the Inn Hotel on 57th St. tomorrow and I'm going to look for the guy w/the VCR tapes. His files may contain footage from the Soap Factory as well as other appearances from Disco Artist's past.
Great point Boodikka!

How about "Whitney thought her carry-on would be the best place to hide her dope" or "Whitney and Bobby made the best effort yet to wake the dead when they argued with her family at the hotel"?
To seriously answer the question: are there instrumental mixes of any of her tracks? If so, they would get my vote....
As I mentioned before, the dub version of The Queen of the Night is excellent. On 2002-06-14 14:49, Graham Start wrote:

I will always love "All the man that I need", it is just an example of a true singer. Whatever happens in her life is her business. What will always stand is her enormous artistry.
Have a Disco Life.
I hope everyone is aware that "All the Man I Need" was done FIRST by Linda Clifford. And done BETTER: more soul, less histrionics.
\"...a once in a lifetime feeling that returns every week...\"
I always though it was Sister Sledge who did it first.

I was always disappointed by Whitney Houston. Considering the output of her mother, Cissy, and her aunt, Thelma - excellent records like "Think It Over" / "Don't Leave Me This Way" - I never think that Whitney came anywhere near to realising her potential.
OK - she was very successful from a commercial point of view, but from a soul / funk / disco point of view? - disappointing.
Sorry, folks ...
If it moves - funk it!!

Don't apologize. A lot of people agree with you, and I'm one. When Whitney released "You Give Good Love", I was like, this lady has got it! Then, Arista turned her into a commercially slick, polished, soulless, MOR balladeer. "I Will Always Love You"... puh-leeze, I'm still gagging.
