My recent record buys at the Dapto markets

Hi all. In my last 2 visits to the Dapto markets I've picked up quite a few great disco rekkerds, still yet to listen to a lot of them:

Crown Heights Affair - Crown Heights Affair 1974 LP :D :D
    Tommi - Disco Satisfaction (medley)/Angie (medley) 1977 12" single
Ashford & Simpson - Wanna Be Selfish 1974 LP
    Brainstorm - Stormin' 1976 LP
Baby Washington & Don Gardner - Lay A Little Lovin' On Me 1973 LP (still sealed in plastic!!!)
Boney M - Oceans Of Fantasy 1979 LP
The Miracles - City Of Angels 1975 LP
    Heatwave - Central Heating 1977 LP :D
Esther Phillips - Capricorn Princess 1976 LP

I've been after the Crown Heights Affair first album from 1974 for a long time, glad I got a hold of it although unfortunately it's scratched to the shithouse and it dirty. Anyhow previewed it and it's bloody awsome, there's a lot of disco/funk wah wah guitar licks in a lot of the songs on this album :D !!! This album is VERY hard to come across and am glad to get a hold of it even though it's in crap condition.

What was the price of some of these records? Did you ever consider ordering online. I order many cd's from Amazon.com's zsellers which are private stores or collectors who sell there merchandise on the website. 95% of the time the condition is pristine and I've never gotten swindled.

Hi Eddie. The ones in shithouse condition I usually pay 50c to $1 for as the sellers usually charge that much for records. It's a flea market so it's "anything goes" sort of thing from old Victor lawnmower parts to old/new computer parts to used electricals to broken toys to records of varying condition to anything!!!

But fair dinkum, these records are not easy to come across and I've rarely seen doubles of funk/disco rarities so I take what I get. Often at the Dapto markets the records are in good condition as some marketers market records in special plastic album sleeves and the records are in good to mint condition.

As for ordering records/CDs I'm afraid I don't use credit card which means I have to go through the long winded process of sending money orders which take weeks to reach the billing departments overseas and some time for them to process the order and weeks for them to send the record/CD to me, and I couldn't be stuffed doing that most of the time.

In Australia unlike America it's relying on pot luck to get these rare records as rarely you'd see two of them, in Wollongong there is a "Record King" rekkerd shop which I occasionally go to which sells a mixture of rock/metal/funk/disco from rare to common, but even there it's pot luck finding such rarities like Crown Heights Affair's first album. I'm stoked to have found it at all as I've always wondered what their music was like prior to 1975.

I do order from Amazon from time to time but I'd have Buckleys chance trying to finding Crown Heights Affair's first album on there. And though these days a lot of albums are on CD, that album would still yet to be added to CD, same with a shitload of other albums and singles especially those funk 45s on funk45.com site.

Funky Dude, Did you ever come across any of the Gap Band's pre-Mercury recordings dating from the mid 1970's to 1978? I've heard they're as rare as the 1974 Crown Heights Affair record.
You're right on collecting. I've found a lot of diamonds in the rough in record/Cd stores throughout the years. I'm into the obscure R&B subgenre called retro-nuevo which is R&B ballads from 1987 to 1993. Some rare artists that noone ever heard of that I was looking for and found were Kiara, Guess, Nu-soul habits, 4u, AJ, Wooten Brothers, By all means, Gerald Alston, Real Seduction, Yours Truly, Jamm, Christopher Williams, Christopher Walker, Audrey Wheeler, Gary Brown, ect. A lot of stuff I go for isn't what every collector wants, thus I can get real good deals.

Shipping to Australia would probably be a killer. That Crown Heights record would have probably went for $30-50 bucks on ebay since everybody is looking for. The collector in that case is probably getting shilled is also relying on seller's grading. To ship something back just isn't worth it.
