This is somewhat popular underground in NYC. Lyrics are "Come on get down and dance, Get down to the funky beat." This is followed by an early New Jack synthizer line. It sound like 83 or 84.
I finally found it!!! "Get up and dance" by Freedom. It was recorded in 1979 and released on both TK and Malaco. It was sampled heavy but Grandmaster Flash. I have a 3:30 version a 6 CD box set called the Last Soul Company that focuses on more blues oriented soul like Denise Lasalle, Johnny Taylor, and Little Milton.
The strangest thing about this song by Freedom is that I could not place it. It sounded like a Fatback or BT Express production but sounded much later like mid 1980's. The horn phrase was used by SWV on a dubious remix and imitated by all the New jacks like Teddy Riley. The drums, horns, and bass were kickin' tighter than Brick or Con funk shun's on their best cuts. Spend the 60 buck and get this one. Any feedback is welcome. I'll post a new thread on the main discussion forum.
