    Funky Dude,

I've always wanted to ask you this.

Do you cut and paste those lists of songs you post or do you actually type each list from scratch?

From the copious list of songs that you posted when we voted for the Top 500--pages and pages by time period of release as I remember, I've always wondered where these lists are derived from. I mean, you have excellent taste and exceptional knowledge, that's a given. But do you type these lists from scratch each time you post?

    Just curious.

Funky, you've commited blasphemy. No Brass Construction in your top 5! Tsk, tsk.
Marky asked what many of us wonder though. I can't imagine doing that kinda typing.
    Anyway, mine are:
    He's The Greatest Dancer
    Brazil
    Come Let Me Love You
What Can I Do For You
    Loving Is Really My Game
    Risky Changes
    Pillow Talk
    Find them and destroy them!

Reason it isn't in my top 5 is because my top 5 is what I've been flogging in tha past 6 months and those 5 songs I've played more than any others in the past 6 months. Although I have belted "Movin'" for a week a few months back. I'm downloading songs all the time and I'm virtually listening to a different song everyday.

I first heard "Movin'" in early 1998 when I borrowed the Mastercuts "Classic Funk Volume 2" CD and at the time I mainly knew mainstream music and when I played it I was thinking "WHOAAAA THIS IS REALLY COOL!!!" and ever since then from time to time I belt the **** out of this song, sometimes I play it heaps a week, sometimes I don't play it for a few weeks or months. Now I'm thinking of giving it a flogging again seeing it's one of the coolest disco songs ever recorded.

Answering your question, the list I've made I actually typed it up but I check through my MP3 collection as well, and it does take a little time to type it up. Normally when I make big lists I go to Windows Media Player, open, right click on a MP3 click "rename" and select the track name and right click and click copy and paste it on the message board. Normally I do a bit of both, type and copy track titles and paste, and yes it is also time consuming, sometimes I even take more than 30 minutes to do my lists.

Hey, DOTBOMB, nice to someone picking up on CHARLES EARLAND and "Over and Over". Great tune!! I like to play that tune occasionally, but I haven't seen anyone mention it for ages.

I don't recall that it ever got a 12-inch release in the UK - it remained an obscure LP track.

    Marky,

For some reason this title caught my eye, but I'm not familiar with it. What is it like? What label?

    Bernie,

It's on Club Epic, volume 3. It's just a short little funky r&b tune (2:38) from 1977 that I had forgotten about.

I remember it from the radio, (I think it charted about #15 Pop), not any clubplay--probably too short. But it is a nifty retro sounding record, sorta Stax Sam & Dave sounding. I put it on a tape and get a charge every time I hear it.

    Check it out.

Not to branch too far off topic here, Charles Earland is just soooo underrated. Over & Over is an amazing jazz-eurodisco epic....

Well, I've just compiled a list of tunes that I'm gonna put on several tapes (tapes for the car/cd's in the apartment). This is a combination of old stuff I haven't heard lately, old stuff I've just recently acquired, or old stuff that's on records I rarely play because they are stuffed in a closet and are somewhat inaccessible.

    The list thus far:

BLAME IT ON THE BOOGIE (REMIX) - The Jacksons
I GOT TO HAVE YOUR LOVE - Fantastic Four
THERE'S A FIRE DOWN BELOW - Fantastic Four
    GET DOWN - Gene Chandler
HERE COMES THAT SOUND AGAIN - Love DeLuxe
    NIGHT FEVER - Carol Douglas

FROM NOW ON - Linda Clifford
I WOULDN'T GIVE YOU UP - Ecstasy, Passion & Pain
    DOUBLE CROSS - First Choice

    HIGH WIRE - Linda Carr
WHERE ARE ALL MY FRIENDS - Harold Melvin & The Blue Notes
NOW IS THE TIME - Jimmy James & The Vagabonds

That's what I'm gonna be listening to for awhile as I shape these tunes into some several (probably 3 I'd guess) tapes.

These are the songs that I play and listen more frequently, most of then are early disco songs, which are my favorities. The order is as they came into my mind.

    1. Hey girl come and get it – The Stylistics
    2. Let’s make a deal – Gloria Gaynor
    3. I’ve got you under my skin – Gloria Gaynor
    4. Be mine – Gloria Gaynor
    5. Good things don’t last forever – Ecstasy, Passion & Pain
    6. Where do we go from here – The Trammps
    7. I just can’t make it (without you) – Philly Devotion
    8. African queens – The Ritchie Family
    9. Quiet village – The Ritchie Family
    10. Everlasting love – Carl Carlton
    11. The hustle – Van McCoy & The Soul Symphony Orchestra
    12. Rhythms of the world - Van McCoy & The Soul Symphony Orchestra
    13. Got to get you back – Sons Of Robin Stone (do you remember this one?? )
    14. It’s good for the soul – Salsoul Orchestra
    15. To each his own – Faith, Hope & Charity
    16. Let’s do the latin hustle – Eddie Drennon & The BBS Orchestra
    17. Try me I know we can make (full version) – Donna Summer
    18. Number onederful – Jay & The Techniques (I bet you didn’t remember this one )
    19. I’m gonna let my heart do the walking – The Supremes
    20. Free & red hot – Shelly Black (This one is really obscure :???: )
    21. First choice theme – First Choice
    22. I found love (Now that I’ve found you) – Love & Kisses
    23. Love chant – Eli’s Second Coming
    24. Devil’s gun _- C.J. & Co.
    25. Get on the funk train – Munich Machine
    26. The night the lights went out – The Trammps
    27. Come into my heart/Good loving – USA European Connection

Although my favorities songs are from the beginning (1974 to 1978) of disco music I also like some from the 80’s.

    28. If you could read my my mind – Viola Wills
    29. Remember Me/Ain’t no mountain high enough – Boys Town Gang
    30. Can’t take my eyes off you – Boys Town Gang

Some songs may seem a little bit tasteless and I also know that I missed some important songs to me, but maybe some other time I will make a more complete list.

    Cheers.

Right now I'm giving this song a good wear and tear:

Mud - Shake It Down 1976

It's a fantastic disco song recorded by a British glam rock group called "Mud" who also had some great glam rock hits like "Tiger Feet" and "L-l-l-lucy". To me this is one of the best disco songs done by a rock artist.
