I ran across an LP from Herbie Mann that prominently features Cissy Houston's name on it from 1976. Anyone know it? Is it worth picking up? Just curious.

Herbie was still in his disco phase at this time, I would guess. Coming between "Discotechque" with "Hi-Jack" and "Superman" produced by Patrick Adams--is this a disco LP?????

Also, anyone know if there's an LP with the Henry Mancini version of Van McCoy's "African Symphony"? If so, is the extended version on it? I've been looking, but have had NO LUCK so far. I figure the LP may be easier to obtain than the 12".

    Anyone?

God Bless The Child that answers his own.

OK, the Mancini LP is "Symphonic Soul" and it's a 3:30+ version, so I guess the 12" is the one to find.

Is this version that much better than the Van McCoy or Saint Tropez versions?

Oh, and the Herbie Mann LP is called "Surprises" from 1976.

    Are there any?

Thre are a couple of surprises in the 1976 Herbie Mann album "Bird In A Silver Gage". This contains vocals by PENNY McLEAN and music by players of the Munich Machine. The results are not bad nor especially good, just odd. I don't think any of the tracks got any killer heels tapping anywhere.

    Marky--

You really don't need anyone else to participate in order for you to enjoy an exchange on this site, do you?!

Speaking of Cissy Houston, on a whim yesterday I pulled out her "Warning: Danger" EP and played the title track. When someone posted a question a while back about a song with sirens I totally forgot about this one.

"Warning" is an awesome song; unfortunately as the '80s progressed, lyrics like "this love affair could be hazardous to you" suddenly didn't play too well anymore....

    Jeffy,

My teachers wrote "plays well with self" on my report card and that holds true today.

"I don't need no music to make me dance" or I don't need no peoples to make me post.

Late in the evening when I posted that, there was no one around, so I did a little search and came up with some of the answers myself.

    I call it self-reliance.

Just how many Herbie Mann disco LP's are there? I know for sure of "Supermann" cause i own it and another one called "Yellow Fever" or something. I'm talking that true hard disco sound. Are those the only 2?
