Not sure if it's the SCC on board, but 'Sweet & Easy' is my favourite.
One of our early pioneers who laid down a great sound that was unique to the disco scene. His LP covers had some of the most awesome pictures.... DISCO BABY to be exact :D
favorite cuts:
THE HUSTLE
HEY GIRL, COME & GET IT
PARTY
Not sure if it's the SCC on board, but 'Sweet & Easy' is my favourite.
What would you do without your muesli...where would you be without a bowl?
Van McCoy was a great composer/arranger. "The Hustle", "Soul cha cha", both examples of his craftmanship. The man left us much too soon. We'll never know how his carreer would have developped.
ill agree with FORRRCE for me too it has to be sweet and easy on share, though it sold quite well it probibly is still better known here, brenda and the tabulations laid down vocals on this on 'a love you can depend on' maybee its better known that way in the u.s
an honourable mention also for 'soul improvisations' buddah 8)
Van McCoy...I will always be grateful to him for bringing to us one of THE all time classics "The Hustle". Don't forget he also produced and arranged David Ruffin's "Walk away from love", at least that's what it says on my 12 inch!
I'm partial to Van's "Change With the Times," "Soul Cha Cha" and "Love Is the Answer." :D
As far as writing and producing, it's gotta be "To Each His Own" & "Don't Pity Me" for Faith, Hope & Charity and the aforementioned "Walk Away From Love" for David Ruffin. Sublime. :D
"Lost inside adorable illusion...."
My favorite Van McCoy tracks are all ones he produced for others, with one exception:
Heavy Love/Walk Away From Love David Ruffin
Come Down To Earth Choice Four
When You're Young and In Love Ralph Carter
Don't Pity Me/You're My Peace Of Mind Faith, Hope & Charity
Change With the Times Van McCoy
He was a very busy fellow, maybe a workaholic, which unfortunately may have contributed to his early death from heart attack.
Van McCoy is one of my top favourite disco artists. A lot of his music are instrumental cover versions of other artists songs but they are so well done and some even better than the original in terms of dancibility e.g. "Proud Mary" (originally recorded by CCR and previously covered by Ike & Tina Turner), also "Backstabbers" previously recorded by The O'Jays.
From the albums I have of him from 1972 to 1976 here are some of my favourites:
From Disco To Love LP 1972:
Don't Hang Me Up
Soul Improvisations
Love Is The Answer LP 1974:
Love Is The Answer
Proud Mary
Backstabbers
Funky Feet
Disco Baby LP 1975:
The Hustle
Disco Baby
Get Dancin'
Turn This Mother Out
The Disco Kid LP 1975:
Disco Kid
Earthquake
Change With The Times
Roll With The Punches
The Real McCoy LP 1976:
Jet Setting
To Each & His Own
Sweet Sweet Rhythm
Party
Rhythms Of The World LP 1976:
Rhythms Of The World
That's The Joint
The Shuffle
Australia mate! The land of many great funkateers!
Nobody mentioned Van's "My Favorite Fantasy" LP from 1979...I believe it was the last one he released before he died.
It is extremely cheesy but I kinda like some of the tracks on it. The instrumental "Two Points" could have been a theme song for an Aaron Spelling 70s TV show!!
I've heard of that album, wouldn't mind getting a hold of it sometime
Van also cut a couple of tracks for the soundtrack of the film "Sextette", a 1979 fiasco featuring Ringo Starr, Tom De Luise, 30 bodybuilders, a future James Bond and Mae West, aged c 80. I recall seeing the album in at least one store when the movie was out. Listening to the tunes off an old vhs copy they don't sound half bad at all. Seek the tape out - and I'll bet with almost anything popping up these days there'll be a special de luxe widescreen collector's edition dvd realese out soon.

I'm with Marky on this one. Those are my favorites also. I just recently obtain the Don Kirschner's Rock Concert with Van McCoy. Also featured on the same show was Faith, Hope and Charity doing their songs plus backup for Van's hits. Great show.
And at the other end of the spectrum ...I just watched (this past weekend) an old clip of the Brady Bunch cast dancing/singing to his 1975 classic "The Hustle" as a number from their colossal-failed variety show from 1976-77. I hope he never got a chance to see that, as that might have brought on his heart problem a lot sooner.
I remember "Sexette". I remember recently watching "Myrna Brackenridge" with Raquel Welch. West ran circles around her. Very funny.
Those interested should definitely seek out his production of "I'm Counting On You" by Peaches and Herb which is amazing....and Van's pre-disco album out in the UK called "Night Time Is The Right Time" that he did with Mitch Miller of all people when they tried to make him the 2nd coming of Johnny Mathis. He was a great singer, and by the time he was 22 had a ton of hits for major superstar artists. His disco music was awesome. But his career, living to the age of only 40 is astounding when put in context.
