No empirical evidence to base it on, but the steam cleaning scares the hell out of me. I wouldn't try it.
Gooday all ,, Im in the process of assembling a record cleaner using an old t-table , vacuum cleaner , brush etc etc ,, But !! a thought just crossed my mind - has anybody experimented using a handheld steam unit for cleaning records ? ...just a though ....zzzzz

:o Doesn't a steamcleaner produce heat???? Be very carefull with such a thing. Test it on some worthless records first before you pick your favourites!!! And keep us informed!
I'd use a commercially available vinyl record cleaner. The steam-cleaning will probably make more of a mess than anything else. The record labels will get damaged by the steam too.
