    Carte Blanche PYE Records

    Hello!

I own an 7" single of Carte Blanche - Get Up Get On Your Feet. I'm a disco house producer and I'm very interested in sampling rafrain and make a new song (something like Daver Armstrong did with Pointer Sisters - Dare Me). On the sleeve said that this single released PYE records. I was wondering, do anyone know something about PYE records,
web site, address and who owns copyrights now?

    Thanx,

    DJ Niki from Croatia

PYE records became PRT (Precision Records & Tapes?) so far as I know. What happened after that I haven't a clue.

I'm pretty sure this was licensed from another label in New York so I don't think Pye own the copyright any more (but isn't the Pye catalogue owned by Sanctuary nowadays)?

If you truly have the 7" vinyl, it will have the publisher's name on it or whether it's ASCAP, BMI, etc which would at least tell you who was the original licensing body. That's a start. It would also have the writers of the track.

With this information, you should be able to find out a few things, which might lead you to your goal.

    Try ASCAP site for starters.

Update: It's been on several disco sampler CDs (including one by DISKY records), so you shouldn't have any problems finding out the owners of this track. You just have to dig a little.

AFAIK this is the original Italo Disco release on Durium DE-X 13005, 1979, my copy is on white vinyl, I never heard the PYE version, so I don't know if it is different or better than this one. I actually liked the flip better, "do you like it like that" an instrumental cross between "Rock your baby" George Mcrae, and "Nice and slow" Jesse Green. This 12" was not very popular for me, I hardly played it at all, but I still love the cover :)
