How about Sao Paulo Marcio? :o
Philadelphia gave the world Chic's Sister Sledge, Detroit gave the world Diana Ross, Boston gave the world Donna Summer, Nashiville gave the world Andrea True, but Seattle...nobody :) .

Well, we did have Salazar who released the single "1,2,3" which actually made it onto the Billboard Disco Charts.

DON'T TOUCH ME
Patrick Gammon
Motown M7-922R1
(an oddly unexcited and {disinterested?} cover ....dont cha think ?? )
This is a Munich based production from 78/79 .... but not euro disco (at all) .... sort of Prince/Rick James/Foxy/Billy Preston like.
Patrick Gammon : Lead Vocals/Synths/Rhodes/Grand Piano/Rhythm Guitar/Moog Bass --- (thus Prince-like)
Thor Baldursson: arranges and conducts strings ( Munich Symphony Orchestra) on two cuts.
Judy Cheeks: sings on two cuts.
Album's intro cut:
THIS **** IS BAD
Patrick Gammon was the keyboardist for Ike and Tina Turner. He past away in 1996.

Vancouver didn't turn out a disco diva either.Mind you Montreal produced Claudja Barry and Patsy Gallant.
We're proud to have produced Quincy Jones (who has produced a few divas.)
And how about Kristine W. She's from Pasco, WA. Which is outside of Seattle. But maybe we can include that (the way everyone associates Kurt Cobain with Seattle, even though he's from Aberdeen.)
"Because there's music in the air."
I'll also add Isis Gee. She's a dance diva representing Poland at this year's Eurovision. And she's from Seattle. Go figure. Very talented too. Check her out on YouTube.

Actually they did! I was spinning then and remember it quite well. I can't speak for sales but the floor always liked the song and responded favorably. It was in a straight club and I'm sure the gay clubs did not give the song a second listen. It was also re-released with recut vocals when the Seattle SuperSonics won the championship in 1979 as a promo 12" which I still have around here somewhere.

Thanks for pointing that out. I remember when the Sonics won that year, and people were practically dancing in the streets here in Seattle to the recut version (Seattle Sonics Do It.) I also remember the original version getting good airplay on FM KVI (aka K Plus, then KPLZ.)
I didn't realize it at the time, but Luther Rabb had some impressive credentials as a musician. He was a true Seattle native. And his music credits include (I pulled this all off the Internet, so maybe someone can confirm this):
Played in Jimi Hendrix' first band, The Velvetones.
In 1976 did a European tour as lead vocalist with Carlos Santana.
Did work as a session musician with Lola Falana (that must have been fun!)
Joined the band WAR, where he spent most of the 80's playing bass and doing vocals.
and
Luther Rabb might be most recognized as one of the sampled voices used in the Grammy award winning 1989 "Bust A Move" single.
So it's good to hear his name mentioned after all these years.
I should go back to the Experience Music Project museum here in Seattle and see if he's been given his due.
"Because there's music in the air."
That's true. I was spinning there, too, and I can't ever recall anyone in the gay clubs asking for it. Probably because there was so much other really good stuff out at the time. (Also, MCA had a pretty crappy promotion department, but that's another story...)
Also true. I'd forgotten about that Sonics remix getting radio play. That one didn't get a lot of play in the gay clubs, either!![]()
