Thanks SNFever!
A secret of "Stayin' Alive": "Barry Gibb recorded the basic track with an acoustic guitar and a pilot vocal. Maurice Gibb played the bass guitar direct into the console, using a pick, as was his style". I don't understand guitars :-?

are you from the suburbs?Hello disco dancers, I love this music its so fun. The first disco cd I bought was Saturday Night Fever soundtrack.
No, this is a rather pathetic, cheapskate way for Universal to 'plug in' to what they think is a target audience.
Hmmm...first post and snfever is plugging a CD! I agree with Quinny this looks like a pathetic attempt to target the CD at a certain market..us!!
For the record I do not own any Bee Gees records or CD's and have no desire to either, so I will certainly not be buying this CD!
Sorry snfever you've been rumbled.. :D :D :D
How humiliating :-?
I think most of us have the BEE GEES or are over it.
This new form of advertising has been dubbed “Stealth Advertising" and I see more and more examples popping up in many different forums, basically advertising companies use young surfers to ‘plant’ good reviews of Movies, Cd’s, DVDs what have you, on popular boards to create a positive ‘buzz’ about the product and generate sales, in return this posters get free merchandise, free samples and other freebies from the promoters, apparently it works well and it is a new effective cheap form of advertising, they also ‘plant’ street vendors with new products and send armies of ‘Stealth’ promoters to Malls and tourist attraction and even your local Coffee shop to attract un-suspecting citizens with new toys they are paid to promote, regular Folks in this locations are enticed to try this new toy (video games, new PC devices, digital phone cameras, etc) by the stealth seller’s demonstration and his glowing product review, the impostor innocently requests your email address or slips you a card with a “very hard to get” suppliers’ info, pretty sneaky if they ask me.
I read about it months back and also watched a feature in one of those ‘60 minutes’ news shows explaining how it all works, I was really disappointed to see that show, from that point on it suddenly made everything I’m reading online (about products) suspect, and destroyed my confidence in what I thought was great source of un-bias information coming from consumers without any strings attached. So be careful out there, before you break down and bite the bullet make sure you check and double check the source, it ain't pretty, but that's the way it is.... :-?
The stealth marketers have reared their little promotin' heads around here quite a few times before this. Remember the breathless anticipatory tip of the new Motown Number 1's cd reissue of records that everyone here has probably purchased in some form or another years ago? Or one about Miss Ross & the Supremes? Seems like most of these come from some Universal-releated marketing group.
Or the announcement, several years ago, of a new dance cd from someone called "PRUE" or was it "PRU"???? We all went "Prue WHO???
Just ignore em.![]()
"Lost inside adorable illusion...."
this person is so excited about the release of this cd that he or she had to post a topic about it more than once and under different aliases
Now, if this were a post promoting something rare it would not be so bad. But getting something from the BeeGees is even easier than getting a Donna Summer CD. It's not like we've been waiting years for this one and only ultimate BeeGees CD to come out.
I only buy on vinyl anyway....
I think it's a fucking cheap way to get advertising. Universal should be paying Bernie for the use of his server. They'd have to pay everybody else wouldn't they?
When I was 'employed' :) here I asked them to stop. So did Bernie. See what good it's done. Just how stupid do they believe the general public to be? I mean, "out of the blue" we get two Bee Gees fanatics pushing their music. Come on. Give me a fucking break!! :x
You guys mentioned it already. If every recordfirm that's releasing a best of is going to become a member just for 1 post, it's going to backlash in their face.
Message to them: Instead of polluting all the radio stations and charts with your prefab no-talents and instead of thinking you're smart by posting your promos here for free, go out, take a step into the world and look for real talent.
There once was a time that recordcompanies were led by people with musical taste instead of lawyers, accountants and fakers
In a world where people are paying hundreds of dollars for old disco records on e-bay that could easily be purchased for a little as 50 cents at a flea market or a used record store--I guess you can understand why "they" promote this stuff to the masses of people who'll buy anything!!!!
Remember the P.T. Barnum credo: "There's a sucker born every minute."![]()
Whole lotta suckers out there buying **** they don't need from TV infomercials airing at 3:00 am!!!! I know I get tempted myself to call--but I don't.

Hi, everybody. I consider myself a Bee Gees fan too, and even I felt inappropiate the post regarding the number ones album. This forum was definitively not a place for that post. Besides, the album does not have any unreleased track or rarity that had not been released before, so even though I consider myself a fan, I'm not going to buy it.
I promise that my previous posts about the Bee Gees were not related to the new release, I didn't even know about it until now. And I love many other disco artists too.
And the wording of that snfever post is so condescending..."it's so fun"? "Just in case you really don't know them"? "Leave a favorite disco song"? What's that supposed to mean? This post seems to imply the Bee Gees (who are not "all over" the soundtrack; they're on less than half of it) are the be all and end all of disco. The Bee Gees themselves would be one of the first to deny that; they know they were not disco, but danceable r&b and ballad r&b around that time. I think this kind of thing exploits Maurice's memory, too. Maybe his ghost will haunt stealth marketers.

Look whos back, I think its so funny most of the average websufers just read and comment, The no-life web freak needs to protest all that is does not meet his approval and cant wait to debate meaningless issues, The fact is I intern at Universal and I do like the Bee Gees Saturday Night Fever is one of my fav movies,I know many others that like it too, unfortunately the minute one person expresses negativity or conspiracy on the net a mass of posts about me is what comes out instead of a simple music discussion. If you cant just appreciate or comment on the music, ShUT UP I could care less what you think of me or marketing either you like it or you dont no one in this board is gonna figure out the great wonders of the world so give it up. If you think you cracked some big mystery sorry to pop your bubble this is just another fan trying to promote something "I like and am not making money on" THANKS FOR ANYWONE WHO CARES.
OK I'll commment on just the music.
Overall it SUCKED BIG TIME except for a very few tracks and the film was the catalyst for a huge tidal wave of Disco. Undoubtedley it touched a generation (but looking back, I for one am amazed that it did) and Robert Stigwood must have laughed all the way to the bank. That he made sooo much money out of such a very poorly made, cheap film is testament to the folly of youth.
SNFEVER,
Ask your friends at Universal to be more creative and to release some vintage stuff that hasn't been on allready 1000 compilations.
They own the rights of many oldies so why don't they give it a go.
And yes SNL is a great soundtrack!

And that says it all right there! Your love of "SNF" aside, I stand by what I said. It is rude and insulting of ALL OF YOU at Universal to come here for the sole purpose of promotion without the permission of this board's Administrator. You want to push your releases, post in the "Promotions" forum. If you truly want to talk about music, then come here and say something other than sharing facts on the "next big release". :xOriginally Written by snfever
Oh Nicky, pffff, that guy thinks he's smarter than you and Bernie.
But the fact is: did you see how many times this topic is read?
He has achieved his goal and they'll do it again. My advice, next time you see a topic that's tricked: lock it :D
