Being involved in the business of entertainment, I receive a magazine dedicated to promotion and public relations. This little scoop I found too amazing to pass up on passing along to members of this group!
FROM "PROMOEXTRA" MAGAZINE OCTOBER '04:
CMT Drops Voice Messages in Urinals
[CMT=Country Music Television]
In-bathroom promotion has gained ground as a great spot to spend time with the elusive young male demographic.
CMT is using interactive urinal communicators in bars to promote CMT Outlaws. Country Music Television is the latest brand to drop a promotion prop into urinals in bars, concert venues, colleges and radio stations, in this case, to help create buzz for its upcoming televised CMT Outlaws concert and countdown specials.
The deodorizing urinal drain filter cover comes with a waterproof anti-glare lenticular viewing display, pre-recorded audio message and flashing lights. When activated, a message in a woman's voice says, "Don't miss Outlaws on CMT. You seem to miss everything else." The devices are designed to last more than 10,000 flushes.
"We're always looking for innovative ways of reaching viewers, in this case the male audience," said James Hitchcock, VP, creative and marketing, CMT, in a statement. "The social protocols of the use of a urinal—the unwritten rule not to look left or right—guarantees undivided and undistracted visual attention along with the concurrent audio delivery of the tune-in message."
Atlanta-based promotion agency GREAT! handles the account. The urinal communicators were designed by Islip, NY-based Wizmark.
Did you see the quote from the VP of marketing "...the unwritten rule not to look left or right..." he's never been in a NYC men's room; Disco, Country & Western, or otherwise, I guess.
- Yours, musically

I've just got back from a house hunting expedition in Spain (2,500 miles of driving in 12 days).
Whilst there, my wife and I had one of the weirdest, most hilarious experiences ever.
We stayed in Mojacar for 6 nights and whilst there sampled some great food from Argentinian to Italian to Spanish to...... There was an English run joint called Cowboy Cocina that served up burgers and Tex-Mex food. I had the best burger that I've eaten in the last 5 years on the first night. The only disappointment was the Country&Western music that was played in the background.
Anyhoos, I enjoyed that burger soooo much that we decided to go back on a second night. We were seated at a table right next to the bloody speakers, that were relaying what was now, slightly too loud C&W music. Oh well, that's what ya get for being unadventurous.
Halfway through the meal, a different sound came over the speakers......uh what's that.....err, ah eh erm some Reggae.....woah! wait a minute. that's NOT Reggae, it's Reggae Country&Western. We absolutely pissed ourselves laughing. I'm talking belly aches and uncontrollable sobbing with mirth. I made the comment "How did I ever get to live for 52 years, without ever hearing THAT!?" "Such an obvious combination." "Bet Jim Reeves is turning in his grave and Bob Marley too."
Neeedless to say, the whole restaurant was by now staring (and some Reggae C&W fans glaring) at us. They must have thought we'd partaken of an exotic charoot or something. The best comment came from the waitress who'd come over and asked us what was sooo funny. When we pointed out that "The Old Rugged Cross, He'll Have To Go etc" sung in Reggae Country&Western, by a West indian was an even greater mind boggling image than the Jamaican Bobsleigh team (dreadlocks shooting down in the snow, or should that be shooting up?), she got the message and said "ah yes, but you don't HAVE TO listen to it every night. Would you like to know where you can buy a copy?" We fell about laughing even more.
BTW: The burger on the second night wasn't a touch on the first one. Too dry by far.
One of those urinal communicators would have really made my night....doncha think?
Go for it! Denounce C&W....everyone knows it sucks!!! :lol:
