"The late 70's was dominated by people like the Queen of Disco Donna Summer and everybody who was in that bag. We were already in dance mode, the Bee Gees were out with the most fantastic record the world had ever heard so the world was in the mode. Anything outside of that mode was secondary. Certainly jazz was at the very bottom of the genre. I had already had momentum going so I benefited by staying in the genre. Quincy Jones came up with the album 'Give Me The Night' which was a powerhouse. It catapulted me into the 80s."

Fly By Night, Sleep In The Daytime
Oh no you didn't Jimmy!!!!!!!! :o
Actually you beat me to it!
On a more serious note, George Benson was definetely responsible for many a great jazzy disco track. I'm glad he recognizes the area.
btw George Benson hasn't left dance music completely. He may sound like R.Kelly on his latest set (The horror that is "Irreplacable") but he did some excellent stuff with Masters At Work a few years ago.
I didnt know of this newer work with MAW with Benson? Was it actual work or sample crap? If its not sample crap I def gotta check it out! Along with George's escort service
Fly By Night, Sleep In The Daytime
Jimmy,
check out MAW's "Nuyorican Soul" project from 1997 - the "you Can Do it Baby" track in particular. I'm sure you're gonna like it (even though neither Costandinos or Giorgio M are involved  )
song for my brother - mixed by masters at work......awesome,no samples, just a great song.....
some people say that Give me the Night is a funk track... I am not sure cuz it sounds Disco to me
Don't forget his disco take on LTD's "Love Ballad" too.
Speaking of Mr Benson and MFSB, did you know he played with them at least once? Check out this rehearsal footage with him and the group from '87.
Disco Funk
Although I had heard of George Benson prior to 'Give me the night' that really made him popular amongst the general public. I recall listening to the radio when 'Turn your love around' came on. I just thought that was the best track he had ever done. By the mid-1980s, he totally faded away, and now there's just nothing he does that inspires me again. Was any of it disco? Well, as someone who used to go to a disco 2-3 times a week, I don't remember hearing any of his tracks played in there - but it was only Oxford! I'm sure if I'd gone to Heaven or somewhere very popular at the time, I may have heard some of his material.
Okay fellas: What`s the story behind George`s escort service?
I liked George better on CTI. "Lady" and "This Masquerade" were good records. I also liked "Weekend in LA".
