I recall that several months ago someone here stated that he thought "I Lost My Heart to a Starship Trooper" by Sarah Brightman and Hot Gossip was one of the greatest disco songs EVER. Well, uh, OK... (Maybe it's time to resurrect that fluffy novelty number now that a new Star Wars movie has been released...?)

Anyway, I just discovered another disco record by the pre-Phantom Miss Brightman: "The Adventures of the Love Crusader" from 1979 (and on red vinyl). I'd never heard (or heard OF) this one before, and the first time I played it I was not impressed.

But during the second play I picked up on a "Rumor Has It" riff at one point, not to mention liberal borrowing (OK, ripping off) of "I Feel Love" and "Stop! In the Name of Love." Now I can't get this cheesy record out of my head!

But then, I have been known to enjoy the campy numbers that most other listeners spit on...! To each his own.

No wonder Brightman married the toady ALW, huh? Given her early recording career, even Cats seemed respectable!

    Dear Jeff H!
I know, I know that SARAH was in reality
a Disco-Dolly...I also enjoyed the sleazy
    spacey "Starship Trooper"...Besides her
DanceCombo HOT GOSSIP was a very sexy thing
at that time and for some scandals in UK
    responsible...In 1979 they splitted and
Sarah went Andrew...HOT GOSSIP made a touch
    of New Romance...

Sarah, now a respected light opera singer, has more disco skeletons in her closet such as MADAME HYDE, LOVE IN A UFO and SUPER CASANOVA, the latter done with her troupe and penned by Patrick Adams!

In January 1979 Atlantic records sent me to London to meet HOT GOSSIP. I went to one of their live performances. The group came to the US later that year and I recorded an album with them. Sarah was the lead on several balads. I thought she had an incredible voice. Yes we did some disco songs too. "Love Clone" is in the Joans Collins movie THE WORLD IS FULL OF MARRIED MEN.

There was a link I came across to a video for Starship Trooper on youtube, don't remember if it was posted in these forums or if I ran across it somewhere else. It's really cheesy in a 70s sort of way....but a ton of fun to watch!

At any rate, I'm one of the ones who love the song ;)

    OK, confession time.:-o

When I was 16. I went a few times to Pineapple Dance Studios in Convent Garden, London. Being a skinny little thing (then), and a good sense of rhythm I wormed my way into Arlene Philips 'advanced' dance class, from which Hot Gossip was eventually spawned. I remember a particularly lithe dancer, with big eyes, lots of curly hair and a 'primadonna' attitude called Sarah..I gave it up after a few weeks, that dancing lark was just too painful.

I met up with her again at a 'music industry' BBQ in 1978, the attitude, eyes and hair were still there, & she took a little shine to little old (well I was 18) me..:p ...that was the last I heard of her until she married Lloyd Webber.

I have that soundtrack LP & I really like 'Love Clone' but never realised it was a Patrick Adams production; I would've included it on my 'Patrick Adams Tribute Tape' if I'd known!;-)
