lol......yep,it's a porn store...from 19th and castro to market and noe i don't think u can walk 100 ft without some kind of porn, whether it's a store or the backroom of a bar or just observing things while walking..... i remember the 2nd aloha records store but i remember thinking why if there were 2 stores did they have to be close to each other...i thought that the store on 18th was going to close and the other was just going to be 1 big store...i bet u and keefe sold me a lot of music during the time....it was just a fun place to buy music...hey is there anywhere where u could find aloha top 25 songlists online? or even songlistings for the clubs back in the late 70's /early 80's in san francisco?

The original plan was to close the original location when Aloha 2 opened. However, the two owners were seeing indications that people would not walk to the new location. They were seriously concerned people would not bother to walk the few blocks to the new store. As Marky previously commented, the foot traffic back then was pretty miserable. So, they decided to remodel the original store to try to open up more space, while trying to maintain the second store until they could get out of the lease. That was a sad situation!

Butch Wax was later opened by a former customer, Brian, and his primary buyer was Ralph Brown (who bought for Aloha in it's later years). When Brian passed away, his family left the business to Ralph.

As for Aloha's Top 25, nobody ever bothered to record those lists. Now I wished we did, but who knew there would be interest 20 years later??! Your best bet are the Billboard charts!

DVD, how come you weren't at the RTP Encore party, or were you???

Oh dvdjamm, I hope you're feeling much better these days! :D We'll cross our fingers that if there's another RTP party, you'll be able to join us.

Robbie prepared alot of his edits before flying out to SF, especially for the first party. Most of us didn't really know what to expect with the sound system at the Glas Kat. So, he came prepared!

You mentioned, "it's things like that....that made me want to dj...." Do you mind me asking when and where???

thanks,keefe....that's really nice of u......i've never dj at a club.....that's a dream of mine to do.....i was a bedroom dj,just buying music and making tapes...i still have some vinyl but no more turntables...seeing that numark cd mixer at medium rare records made me wish i could buy one.....maybe in the future...i remember buying the lime album your love, the patrick cowley stuff, alot of the moby dick singles and the boystown gang albums at aloha and just being happy...i bought the village people lp with san francisco on it and listened to it over and over....then one time i finally realized what the lyrics meant....lol....i was 13 and slighty naive.....

At long last, the first batch of pictures from the Encore party should be up on the www.remembertheparty.com website in the next week or two! :D There were several contributors for this party so I understand the pictures will be put up in phases.

Also, Robbie Leslie finally announced he has the soundtrack to Encore (7 CDs - approximately 8 1/2 hours of joyful music!!!) available for purchase. Those of you in SF, Medium Rare already has them but I understand they are almost sold out! :o

The webmaster for the RTP websiite was under the weather for awhile, but he's now in recovery mode! The playlists from the soundtracks that Robbie released have now been added to the site. The list for the party in April is not complete due to some gaps in the recording. However, I know the list for the second party lists everything we heard!

The first batch of photos should follow shortly.

The first batch of pictures from the Encore! party in October are now up on the RTP website!

    www.remembertheparty.com

These photos turned out nice - really showing the beauty and fun from the lighting effects (especially from the mirror ball cluster and the huge fiber optic curtain). :D Plus, you'll see the terrific and diverse crowd of dancers that attended the Party!

    Happy New Year!!
