REVOLUTION MAGAZINE: At the peak of your stardom, you were immersed in the underground club scenes of both New York and London. How did you discover the Paradise Garage?
BOY GEORGE: I've always been a magpie attracted to something that's different. I stumbled into the Paradise Garage by accident one night at 4:00 in the morning looking for somewhere to go, at the height of my Culture Club thing. It was a hardcore black, gay crowd, and the music was...well, "Set It Off" was playing. It was so different than the politics of the pop scene; there was this anarchic energy, and no one really bothered me! One night Diana Ross walked in there in full regalia and no one bothered her, either. It was a very self-contained world.
