Well "Jump the gun" was one of The Three Degrees hardest dancetunes. It has a rock-synth-edge and I always loved it. A very different style from their well-known classics. It was released in 1979 and was a Moroder/Faltermeyer song and it's a smasher!!!

Same goes for the O'Jays, which is a distance from their soul and discoproductions. More in the same style as what for instance The Whispers did.

    5-The Dells - "Oh, What A Night" (1969)
Classic ballad to grind to. I didn't know it had a signature philly sound though.

    6-First Choice - "Smarty Pants" (1973)
One of those early disco or protodisco songs that is definitely philly. It's a reminder to women to use the pill.
    Find them and destroy them!

 Man, I need to listen to lyrics more carefully, I never knew this was what the song was about

wonder what Wison Picket's was about? She was stingy?

I need to track down that Labelle song , it doesn't ring any bells for me.

Oh, sorry everybody  , the songlist has terrible mistakes. The correct Philly Soul tracks are:

    1. Elton John Mamma Can't Buy You Love
ELTON JOHN Mamma Can't Buy You Love (Ultra rare 1977 original UK 7" with misspelt title on label - correct title should read 'Mama' Can't Buy You Love XPRES20)

    4. Billy Paul Your Song
BILLY PAUL Your Song (1976 UK 9-track Philadelphia International label 12" b/w How Good Is Your Game, picture sleeve PIR5391)

    6. First Choice Smarty Pants
FIRST CHOICE Smarty Pants (Original 1973 UK Bell Records label 7" b/w One Step Away, BELL1324)
