    Koffie

Has anyone heard Koffie's version of "And I'm Telling You..."?

Is it decent or overdone. I've only heard the Donna Giles version which came out in the 90's.

Yep Jeff burned this for me and it was good. Somehow, I didn't get this. Fell between the cracks of Aloha Records closing and my move to LA, I guess. :o

Koffie's version was released on Pandisc Records out of Miami, and executive produced by Bo Crane a first generation Dj and founder of the first DJ Record pool in Miami sometime around '75. This record is great but unfortunately came out a bit to late ('83) to ride the old style disco craze. I have no idea how well it sold.

I heard this one from a disconet I have. I like it and i recommend that you check it out as well. I'm not sure how different the disconet version is from the original 12"? On the disconet you miss a little of the intro if there is any because they mix it slightly with the previous song on the record.

Just came across another Koffie release I forgot all about, "Total Eclipse of the Heart" (1984) no strings this time but still has the old ‘disco’ sound and melody, very nice vocals with instrumental version on the flip with great back up vocalists, and percussion break. 132 bpms

Not to cause confusion but well worth mentioning from the same era is KOFI & The Love Tones 'Countdown (Here I Come)', a great hi-nrg update of the Tempos Northern Soul classic with a catchy 10-9-8...hook, this Kofi being a Smokey voiced guy.

One of several Northern Soul classics revived on the UK Electricity label in early 1984 produced by Kev Roberts and mixed by Ian Levine, both showing their roots.

    6-5-4-3-2-1 here i come...

In response to mixtape's message, I have the 12" and the Disconet Version ..... there is very little difference - the Disconet one is slighty longer, but again, not of any significance

Can you tell me a bit about Kev Roberts. I was living in the town that the Electricity label was based at the time and loved Kofi and the Lovetones (and Tina Fabrique also came out on that label at the time). As the label was hinrg based, it got no publicity as existing in that small town.

For further info about Kev and his background in the Northern Soul scene check out his 'Northern Soul Top 500' (a special edition was published at the end of 2003) and also try the Gold Soul label website.

Where was the Electricity label based then ? Remember Velvette 'Nothing's Worse Than Being Alone' ?
