Roberta Flack talks about Donny Hattaway in December 8, 2003.
The multi-Grammy Award winner established herself as a musical icon in the 1970s with such classics as The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face and Killing Me Softly. There also were numerous efforts with her much-beloved partner, the late Donny Hathaway, such as Where Is the Love? and The Closer I Get to You and You Are My Heaven.
Invariably, Hathaway's name comes up in conversation with her. Their musical partnership was one of the most prolific of that decade.
Flack wanted to put to rest a couple of misconceptions that have floated around since Hathaway's suicide in 1979. "Someone said Donny killed himself because he couldn't have me," she revealed. "I was like 'Oh my God, are there people who really think that?' Donny and I didn't have anything other than a musical relationship. He was married at the time and so was I. In fact my first husband introduced me to him."
She was also emphatic that there was never any intimate relationship beyond their respect for each other and their love for music and the product they gave fans. Her praise for him is endless.
Roberta Flack was interviewed on WEB by Aldore Collier :D
