Slow Jams - Grinding In The 70's

I would like to take all of you back...way back. Maybe before you started the Disco scene or certainly for me all through my life. Anyway, I am interested in creating a compilation of Classic Slow Jams. These songs would be the ones you danced to in high school or purposely played in the background to get that certain someone in the mood . Below I have listed a couple I remember had a special effect and result  . I would welcome tracks from the 60's but most importantly from 1970 - 80.

    Bloodstone - Natural High
    Stylistics - You Are Everything
    Chi-Lites - Oh Girl
Delfonics - Listen To my Heart
Chicago - Color My World (I think)

I purposely left out many as I would like your imput. Much appreciated.

AIN'T GONNA FEEL by Supermax - this 8 minute track from the African Blood lp got ignored when new yet was ahead of it's time in 1978. Part Cat Stevens: Was Dog A Doughnut and part any mid 80's electro jam with soulful vocals it's a perfect opener for any dj set. The totally contemporary sound centers around a doped synth riff, evolves into a polyrhythmic grind and adds a moody male vocalist. Very involving. - Apparently the US pressing contained different tracks.

The 70's were the greatest decade for producing some classic slow jams
    Some of my all time favourites;

I Wanna Know Your Name -The Intruders
Have You Seen Her - The Chi-Lites
Just Don't Wanna Be Lonely - Blue Magic
    Distant Lover - Marvin Gaye
If Loving You Is Right,I Don't Wanna Be Wrong-Luther Ingram
Love Won't Let Me Wait - Major Harris
Me & Mrs. Jones - Billy Paul
Walking In The Rain With The One I Love - Love Unlimited
    Salty Tears - Thelma Jones
Kiss & Say Goodbye - The Manhattans
    Misty Blue - Dorothy Moore
Could It Be I'm falling In Love - The Spinners

They just don't produce these calibre of songs anymore.
Different eyes see different things. Different hearts beat on different strings. But there are times for you and me when all such things agree...Rush

It's funny... I remember that track very well, however I never thought of it as a "grinding" song... For me it was more of a prog tune, as opposite to a dancin' tune. It reminded me of early Kraftwerk.

You're right, nobody grinded to "Ain't Gonna Feel" back then, but they're sure grinding to it now - I have witnessed girls with those extremely low cut pants that expose so very much grooving to the track with sinful, slo-ooh-w motions.

WOW! I never expected you to post so many classic slow jams when I posted this thread. No wonder there was a baby boom going on  .
Don't stop I may be able to make a 10 CD compilation when it's all said and done. Here are a couple more I remember but need the artist.

    Maybe -

I thought the PERSUASIONS did Thin Line....... and LOST GENERATION did - Sly, Slick & The Wicked which is something I should have mentioned.

Yup you're right, and the Persuaders as well. Just checked and I have all three on different CDs.

My only question is, why would anyone put this song on a slow jams comp if it is about a woman almost killing her man? Save that for Valentine's Day

You know Bernie, this is so true. I guess we did not listen to the words all that much. This was definitely a song that the Nun's would come around and try to seperate us at school dances. Now I have to go and listen to it closely

OK, did a quick search and came up with the lyrics. I am not sure if he tried to kill her or she tried to kill heerself cause he hurt her in love. It's still agreat slow jam

IT'S FIVE O'CLOCK IN THE MORNING
    AND YOU'RE JUST GETTING IN
    YOU KNOCK ON THE DOOR
AND A VOICE SWEET AND LOW SAYS
    "WHO IS IT?"
SHE OPENS UP THE DOOR AND LETS YOU IN
NEVER ONCE ASKS WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN
    SHE SAYS "ARE YOU HUNGRY?
    DID YOU EAT YET?
LET ME HANG UP YOUR COAT
    PASS ME YOUR HAT"
    ALL THE TIME SHE'S SMILING
    NEVER ONCE RAISES HER VOICE
IT'S FIVE O'CLOCK IN THE MORNING
YOU DON'T GIVE IT A SECOND THOUGHT

IT'S A THIN LINE BETWEEN LOVE AND HATE
    (REPEAT)

THE SWEETEST WOMAN IN THE WORLD
COULD BE THE MEANEST WOMAN IN THE WORLD
IF YOU MAKE HER THAT WAY
    YOU KEEP HURTING HER
    SHE'LL KEEP BEING QUIET
SHE MIGHT BE HOLDING SOMETHING INSIDE
THAT'LL REALLY, REALLY HURT YOU ONE DAY

I SEE YOUR IN THE HOSPITAL
    BANDAGED FROM FOOT TO HEAD
    IN A STATE OF SHOCK
JUST THAT MUCH FROM BEING DEAD
    YOU COULDN'T BELIEVE THE GIRL
WOULD DO SOMETHING LIKE THIS, HA
YOU DIDN'T THINK THE GIRL HAD THE NERVE
    BUT HERE YOU ARE
I GUESS ACTION SPEAKS LOUDER THAN WORDS

IT'S A THIN LINE BETWEEN LOVE AND HATE
    (REPEAT)

I agree with Bernie. I like the song but, not to get my woman in the mood.
This song is about a man who treats his woman badly and she went Lorraina Bobbit on him :(
